Leave it as it is!' cry about artistic vision or whatever, the more I get the impression that they feel like adding an Easy Mode will, for some reason, erase the original difficulty mode... which isn't what anyone is suggesting. I'm going to turn this on it's head now, if you feel that the Easy Mode of a game breaks the artistic vision of the game... well, you don't have to play that difficulty.

We had a thread about gaming regrets at DBZ Center way back, I think maybe Dez started it... that sounds about right. Surely we all have things we regret, whether it's money wasted on shitty games, games we missed out on because of decisions that are questionable in hindsight (ie, picking one console over another), games we were late to the party on, the list goes on. And a lot of time has passed since we last looked back on our regrettable decisions, so those of us who responded to the original thread probably have new regrets to share. Of course it's perfectly fine to rehash the old regrets too I'll get the ball rolling: Even though I still for some reason have a soft spot for the Game Gear, I wish I hadn't agreed to give away my Game Boy + games in order to get a Game Gear. That damn colour screen was just too tempting

Trading in my PS1 RPG's for new PS2 games when I was 15. We're talking about Suikoden II, Valkyrie Prfoile, both Lunar's, ect... As for a buying regret, Fable will be the biggest one for me. Bought the game at full price and 100% the game in 12 hours....

Out of habit? Because some folks still think it’s fun / interesting / etc.? I’m not super hyped about it either, but no need to be a wet blanket.

The GameCube was great! I wince a little over the Wii U, but we still got a heck of a lot out of Mario Kart 8 before it was released on Switch, and now that there are so many good games on Switch it'd have more to compete with now anyway. I'm more annoyed that MK8 Deluxe didn't include more of the old courses or characters, even in DLC form. It feels like they need to do a Smash Bros Ultimate with the next MK game.

The tricky thing about video games is that not everyone will play the same game for the same reason, and forcing the player to play the game how you specifically want it to be played narrows down how many people are going to keep playing it. If I'm into a game's story, then being stopped by gameplay is the most aggravating and least fun thing the game can do, because story to me is not the reward for good gameplay and that's what high difficulty turns it into. I want to see what happens next, stop getting my way etc If I'm into the gameplay or even feel like I accomplish something in the game, then higher difficulty is fine (ex: I don't think I ever had fun playing the Last of Us even when I beat it on hard mode, but it felt do-able after beating it on easy and I wanted my trophy statistics to look better than beating it on Easy looked). I did beat Dark Souls and did experience the "OHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCK." I killed the giant wolf a lot earlier than I should've due to learning the pattern and executing, shit was heart-pounding, but when I look back at it (Ddrat, da-da-da-um-da), all the hours of stress didn't feel worth the 30ish minutes of feeling accomplished at the end of it because dying in an open world like that was so punishing (I probably "quit" at least 20 times not counting Ornstein and Smough).
