Overall i'd say this is a 7 to 8, maybe a high 8 if I reflect on it more. Gonna spoiler tag my thoughts for the weekend, just to be on the safe side.

 

 

It was pretty dope to start off with Strange and America together, and shocking to see him die so early on into the movie. It made the moment later on where our Strange uses his corpse to fight off Wanda extra awesome, because I had honestly completely forgotten about it by that point in the movie. Didn't really expect her to not know how her powers worked, but it was neat to see her finally figure shit out. Kind of crazy she was able to punch the shit out of Wanda, who at that point seemed to be at her most powerful. I'm wondering if the Shuma Gorath looking creature was actually Shuma, or just one of his race maybe?

Seeing Khmer Taj destroyed was cool, it reminds me of seeing Hela destroy part of Asgard back in Ragnarok, but on a slightly smaller scale. I'd had the fact that the Illuminati existed spoiled for me a day or two ago, even though it was pretty much assumed back in one of the earlier trailers that they'd be around. I'd been wanting to see Captain Carter in live action forever, more so after seeing her in What If...? so to see her here was super fucking awesome, and seeing her fight was dope. So glad she also got the "I could do this all day" line. I was glad to see they actually got John Krasinski to play Reed Richards, even though he and the rest of the Illuminati got killed off rather easily. At least we know if they bring those characters back who will play them, and I can't wait to see how Marvel handles their own Fantastic Four movie. For Reed to just straight up tell Wanda what Black Bolt could do, especially considering he's supposed to be one of the smartest people in the world was REALLY dumb.

 Oh man, when they revealed Xavier, complete with a tiny bit of the X-Men cartoon theme, I almost cried I was so happy. Glad he was able to somewhat hold his own for a bit, although he did get a pretty gruesome death. He wasn't the only one either, seeing Reed getting pulled apart only for her to rip his brain out and have it go "pop" was...something. Seeing how Black Bolt died was kind of lame, you'd think he would have an idea what would happen in that situation, but apparently not. I couldn't recognize the actor playing him, although I know i've seen him in tons of other stuff. (Edit: Turns out he played Black Bolt in that shitty Inhumans TV show. Guess Marvel decided to give him another shot.) Hearing the MCU get called the 616 reality was...odd, as I thought it was 19999 or something along those lines. Monica as Captain Marvel was cool, but I wish it had been Carol Danvers instead, or at least the actress that was in Wandavision. Seeing Wanda react to her being in the way would've been interesting.

 Having the movie end with our Strange getting his third eye, instead of having it in a post credits scene was a nice choice, it made the final post credits scene funnier. I do wonder who Charlize Theron was supposed to be playing. I'm thinking Clea, but didn't remember to look in the credits to see who she was.

 

Oh, and Wanda as a villain was fucking scary.

First off SUCK IT SONY!!!! THIS IS HOW IT WORKS FOR FUCKING GOOD MOVIES WHEN YOU LET US HAVE IT.

* Agreed that Wanda was so fucking creepy in this. Like I was slightly surprised that she was more or less the main baddie in this but at the same time after what she just went through? Ya no it fucking checks out. She was ded inside and like Xavier said, she basically went Dark Phoenix here because all she wanted was her boys (but oddly enough not Vision with all the options of Verses she could have chosen to have the boys AND Vision? That felt a little sus for some reason unless there was a reason Vision wasn't an option in any of those Verses.) It seriously killed me in the end when she's trying to get the boys on her side saying "She's mommy"and they were having none of it and that Other Wanda didn't even flinch or blamed her for Our Wanda's actions.
*WE GOT OUR FUCKING PEGGY CAP CARTER AND XAVIER
*The Bruce Campbell cameo was *chef kiss* a delightful surprise, especially the post end credit with him. I shouldn't have been surprised since fucking Sam Reimi/Bruce bro love that they have. But it was just a perfect little gem in there.
*Was anyone else trying to catch all the Verses Strange and Chavez hopped through until they finally stopped? I thought I recognized a couple (possibly the end bit if LOKI Tv? scenery) but it was hard to try and focus on it.
*While I will agree some of the fights with the Illuminati and deaths were a bit meh and short for my liking. I get that they were probably having to fit A LOT in this 2hr slot But Black Bolt def made me cringe because. FUCK.
*Definitely some good one liners for jokes. I also thought this was a good growth arc for Strange since it was pointed out multiple times that he likes always being in charge and taking the lead on things. I mean Cumbersnatch always seems to have roles like that much like Sean Bean always gets the chars that die. BUT I digress on that.
* @MT It is Clea listed in IMDB for Theron. Which I have no idea who that is in Marvel world, nor do I know who America Chavez is. (In the area of lesser known Marvel to me, please feel free to explain to me the big importance here. Clea gave me bit Eternals vibe.) ALSO WHO THE FUCK WOULD DOOM THEIR CHILD NAMING THEM AMERICA!? WHY? I know it's small stupid thing but that was my first thought when she introduced herself.
*Not only do we get What If Strange, BUT ALSO ZOMBIE STRANGE BEING POSSESED BY OUR STRANGE. FUCKING LOVE IT.

So many other good things here. I also am pretty sure Wanda's alive and just gonna self Exile herself here. Or possibly as one of my friends theorized, if that part is going to possibly tie into the Agatha TV spin off at all.

I really enjoyed this movie.  In particular I loved that note where they fought with music.  Love when directors are creative like that.  I could see Raimi's fingerprints all over this movie and that's always a welcome change (Marvel movies are so samey a lot of the time).  You could tell Raimi was having fun with the zombie strange and wings made of souls of the damned.  Jesus christ that was nuts.  

 

I enjoyed the character growth for Strange as well.  He got humbled of course becoming Strange but I think once in a while he needs to get his hand slapped away.  Seeing some of the fucked up shit (and especially that sinister Strange) was clearly eye opening.

 

I'm very curious what the 3rd eye means.  It's clear that people that fuck with the Darkhold get fucked by it but it seemed like they were trying to say this Strange was different from the others.  I wonder if this shit appears and he just learns to use it.  He seemed very confident during that scene with Clea (and yeah that's the character).  Also they're clearly going to the dark dimension that Dormommu is from (since that's apparently her uncle).

 

Wanda moving from WandaVision to this was definitely jarring.  I guess that's kind of the nature of movies though.  There's always going to be leaps in between, even after they get a TV series.  I kind of expected eventually she was going to lose it like this but I really didn't think she was going to be the main villain of the movie.  Jovanna said she was really sad Wanda went bad guy lol.  I was like well....I was kinda waiting for it.  I do hope some day they manage to redeem her.

 

I think I'm with @MT giving it a solid 8.

 

I don't think John Kracynzski playing Reed is necessarily set in stone.  Same as them almost definitely not using Patrick Stewart again as Xavier in other movies.  Man he really is showing his age now.  Also I wish we'd gotten to see a little bit more of Reed.  It felt a bit flat because he barely had anything to work with.  I will say I was genuinely shocked to see Reed and especially HIM as Reed.  I'm totally for it though if they do end up casting him in the FF movie.  That would fucking rule.

 

Watching Wanda fucking kill the shit out of all the Illuminati was crazy as fuck.  The one with Xavier was particularly brutal.  Someone on Reddit even caught a screenshot:

 

 

Also they said the word "incursion" about 8 billion times.  I'm like 99% sure we're on our way to a Hickman Secret Wars movie.  Or maybe they blend his with the original.  Very curious to see where that thread is going especially because the Russos said they'd come back for a Secret Wars movie.

Now THIS was a Dr Strange movie, or at least more in line with what I've grown up with for Dr. Strange vibes! I won't claim to be knowledgeable about the comics or anything but growing up one of my avenues to my love of weirder things was a small cache of comics that I think came from a garage sale or something and I guess my parents never bothered to check because I was definitely not allowed to consume content about shit like sorcery and demons and wizards and all that until Harry Potter came along lmao 

 

So Dr Strange through a Raimi lens really brought out a lot of my Strange nostalgia and it was such a blast!

 

Some of the editing was really unpolished/unfinished feeling, and I can't really pinpoint how much of that was intentional and how much was just "we have to put the movie out it's been long enough" 

 

Loved the multiverse cameos

Loved their demises 

Loved the camp

Loved the weird vibes

Loved the music fight

Loved Zombie Strange and the Cloak of the Damned

 

I don't really have too much to say I guess because I had my big discussion with Lee and it's all out of my system for now

 

ALTHOUGH I do have to share how there was a family with a couple of kids who couldn't be older than 8 or 9 and the younger one, while watching part of the preshow that was a feature on the guy who did the finger tutting choreography for the sorcerers, excitedly pointed and shouted "MAGIC! LOOK, DADDY, HE'S DOING MAGIC!"

 

Saw him hide his face several times. Dad briefly took him out of the theater at least once. When credits rolled he all but sprinted out of the theater. Hope he sleeps well tonight despite his dad being a dick and taking him to something he wasn't quite ready for.
