I might check it out... I wonder how much of the story can be covered in 24 episodes..? If it's for sure only 24 episodes and then done, then I'm interested, but I don't know if I want to sign up for something that's going to run longer. Looks like the manga has been on hiatus for a long time now, so I guess they can't plan an anime to cover the whole story, since it isn't finished yet. But if they can do a good chunk of the story in 24 episodes with a satisfactory ending then I'd be up for that.

I agree that the mom characters are very strong in this story. Hiling was perhaps the nicest surprise in the whole thing so far. At first glance, just a stereotypical evil step-mom, but there are actually so many layers to her. One of my favourite characters for sure. POWER!!! She could take a person’s eye out with those boobs though

 

The flashback showing how Bojji’s mum died protecting him was pretty heart breaking. 
 

On a lighter note, Despa is fantastic. His horse too

 

The Big Four taking on Ouken in episode 19 was super cool. Loved that. 
 

I’m curious to learn more about how Bosse apparently betrayed Miranjo and got her mad enough to destroy the kingdom. 
 

Bojji will of course save everyone and it will be amazing. At least, it better play out that way, or I’m gonna very disappoint

Yeah I’ve been paying for both on and off a long time now. I unsubscribe or resubscribe to Funi each season depending on what new anime will be available, but Crunchyroll has always been the mainstay. This change is really handy for me.

Shingeki no Kyojin Final Season Ep 9

 

Another of the few good episodes since the time skip. Especially the part where Reiner revealed how fucked up he felt for feeding Marco to a Titan and then Jean jumps on him and starts hammer fisting his face into mush.

 

I feel like Mikasa is going to be the one to kill Eren and the things Eren has been doing (trying to make the scarf disappear, trying to convince her that he's had her under his spooky Titan control the whole time) have been subtly trying to recondition her into doing it. Considering he has time-travel memories now, he presumably knows that even when his efforts fail, she'll understand the message?

I have pretty vivid memories of when I first read this part of the manga, and seeing the picture of Armin and Connie in the preview at the end of last week’s episode brought them all back. That look on their faces. What a brutal part of the story. “We *are* friends!” Poor Connie. 
 

Seeing this stuff animated has been awesome, despite the flaws in the story.

Man, there's so much good here.

 

First off, I love the OP and the soundtrack as a whole.  A lot of memorable pieces, really cool motives, everything sets the mood so well.

 

I kind of liken this to Miyazaki having a take on Game of Thrones.  It has the complex, twisted political intrigue with a cute and wholesome aesthetic.

 

On that note, the art is stellar and really good at capturing a vibe and aesthetic, and I appreciate the level of motion in the animation.

 

Bojji is effing adorable and he breaks my heart all the time.  Literally cried like 5 times already at him shedding tears or feeling alone/helpless.  I kinda hate that they consider him dumb, because I think he's fairly smart?  He's just a little more simple.

 

Anelle called it already, but I love how delightfully complex the characters are.  You can go from hating a character to rooting for them in a matter of episodes.  Hiling and Daida are perfect examples.  I immediately think of Cersei/Joffrey and how I considered both irredeemable, but the moment Daida refused to drink the elixir, I gained so much respect.  Speaking of which, they literally blended King Bosses into a mixture, metamorphosed that into a Phoenix, and then kill the Phoenix to take it's blood and make the final potion.  How are extra can you be?!

 

I'm assuming Bosse isn't down with whatever Miranjo is doing and is trying to get his wife and loyal servants to undermine her plans, but I like that I don't fully know.  Like...was Bojji originally supposed to be the sacrifice?  Has Bosse sacrificed other sons before?  How many?  How fucking old is Bojji anyway?!?

 

The friendship between Bojji and Kage is so damn heartwarming, and then shit like Domas cutting off his hand is so grim and intense, and sometimes it's like watching two completely different shows, but they manage to bring it together in a cohesive whole.  The final result is something that really feels unlike anything that came before.  Clear derivations, but the pieces never put together quite like this.

 

Maybe hyperbole, but so far this enters that Mob Psycho realm of modern transcendence where I legit feel this is one of the best anime I've ever seen.  Definitely a cut above most modern offerings.    And I just want more and more.

WELCOME TO THE BOJJI BROTHERHOOD!!!

 

Bojji definitely isn't dumb. One of the most beautiful things in this series is watching Bojji bloom, in a sense. Like, obviously he's growing as a person and expanding his world view and all that, but it really feels like petals unfurling to give a better look at who he already was at his core. I read a bit of the manga just to see how different it might be and they've definitely recut the story for better pacing and storytelling for the anime. What a ride it is! I'm fully with you on this, it's all-time good tier.
