    Completed Games 2025

    1. DOOM: The Dark Ages 2. Balatro 3. Diablo IV 4. Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred 5. Donkey Kong Bananza 6. Control 7. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound Great 2D sequel to the Ninja Gaiden series. Not nearly as challenging as some of the older games, but still a decent challenge. The bosses were fun to fight, to me it felt like how others feel when fighting Dark Souls bosses: slowly learning it's attacks and how to counter them through trial and error. The checkpointing was pretty good, especially before boss fights. Older games had your last checkpoint before a boss be about halfway through a level, but in this they're usually right before the fight itself, making them way less of a hassle to go back to when you lose. The game has multiple endings, but i'm not really sure if I care enough to go back and get the others. May just end up watching them on Youtube.

I ended up playing nearly all of Remedy's games after Control. I had owned the first Alan Wake for years but avoided it because it sounded like a survival horror game and I generally can't play those anymore. Gave it a shot after Control and loved the story. Ironically, Alan Wake 2 is more like a survival horror game, so I was worried but I ended up still really enjoying it. There are definitely some heavy ties to Control in it (especially via one of the DLC), and there's a teaser for Control 2 at the end of one of them (much like the Control DLC had a teaser for Alan Wake 2). If you haven't played it, I'd also recommend Quantum Break. It's not technically part of the shared universe thing since the IP for it is owned by Microsoft, but they sort of found a workaround for it that ends up being pretty clear in Alan Wake 2 if you've played it. 13.) Dead Take Really interesting little psychological horror adventure game featuring Neil Newbon, Ben Starr, and some other well known voice actors made by the same studio that did Tales of Kunsera: ZAU. Was drawn to it primarily for the people it featured and because I really liked ZAU and was interested to see what else the studio could do. Horror games are something I often can't play these days just because they stress me out too much, but this one hit just about the perfect spot for me. Super intense atmosphere and a pretty dark but really interesting story. Not having something chasing you around apparently makes the difference for me. Got pretty tense at times, but I enjoyed playing it quite a bit. It gets a bit overly artsy at times, but that was to be expected. Had some really solid puzzles too. Nothing so complicated that I got frustrated, but still took some time to think through.

Me too. It got me to give Alan Wake 2 a try (thank you, local library!), that game didn't seem like my kinda thing, but i'm kinda into the shared universe thing, so hopefully it'll lead to some interesting things

Yeah, the accessibility stuff they added to the game after release were great. I was so nervous going into it originally because it was described as being pretty difficult leading up to its release and there were no difficulty options but the story seemed way too interesting to ignore but I struggled pretty hard at parts of the game. I did manage to get through it, but every time I've played it since then (its one of the few games in recent years I've actually played multiple times), I'll adjust some of that stuff so I can just have fun with it and not worry too much. I'd like to see more games do stuff like that. I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

    1. DOOM: The Dark Ages 2. Balatro 3. Diablo IV 4. Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred 5. Donkey Kong Bananza 6. Control I've beaten this before and had a decent enough time with it. The controls (no pun intended) never fully clicked with me, but playing through it again on console and turning on a bunch of assists just to enjoy the story again made the game even more enjoyable than before.

    1. DOOM: The Dark Ages 2. Balatro 3. Diablo IV 4. Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred 5. Donkey Kong Bananza Gonna preface this by saying I know i'm an outlier, but I don't care. I did not enjoy this game. I feel like it should've ended a few hours before it actually did, and the twist seemed incredibly unearned, since there was absolutely zero setup to it. I only ended up beating it because I was so close to the end when I stopped giving a shit. I will say, the only thing I really, absolutely hated was the gameplay. The visuals were great, the music was awesome, but playing it quickly became a chore. The camera was god awful. So many times i'd be midway through a mountain, unable to see where the fuck I was going or what I was actually hitting. I don't really know what they could've changed to make it better, but whatever they went with wasn't it. I beat the final boss, there's a bit of an epilogue after, but about 5 minutes into the epilogue, I realized I didn't give a shit. Closed the game, deleted it and the save data off my Switch, and am probably going to either trade it in this weekend or sell it on Facebook.

    1. DOOM: The Dark Ages 2. Balatro 3. Diablo IV 4. Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Got the partner into Diablo 3, so we've been playing a lot of Diablo in general. Decided to finally finish the D4 campaign I started way back when it came out. Got hooked, and played through the expansion as well. Minor expansion spoilers

12.) Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Hands down one of the best games I've played in I don't know how long. I love just about every part of it, and it's easily in my top 5. Great story, great characters, great gameplay, fantastic environments and lots of fun side stuff and intriguing mysteries to dig into. You can really feel the influence from other RPGS, in particular the Final Fantasy games. I haven't been this all around impressed with a game in a long time. Can definitely see myself going back to this one in time.

    1. DOOM: The Dark Ages 2. Balatro Even though I only beat it with one deck, i'm still considering that a completed game. Downloaded it on my phone to kill time while bored at work, and was finally able to beat it with a blue deck. Trying now with a red deck and it seems a lot harder

Cauldron. Fun game with lots of mini games inside of it and multiple runs to get to the final ending.

    Last Movie Watched

Ballerina A John Wick spinoff that takes place between 3 and 4. Highly enjoyable action, but the suspension of disbelief was huge, even for these movies. She did all of this on basically her second mission?

10.) Hunter: The Reckoning - The Beast of Glenkildove The latest of the World of Darkness text adventure games. This one was really good overall. Not quite as good as the last one, but it kept me engaged. I did end up dying a bit before the "real" end though. Will have to play through again at some point and maybe not get my head bitten off by a werewolf this time around. 11.) Split/Fiction The game was absolutely fantastic. Convinced my wife to play through it with me even though she doesn't much care for platform heavy games, but she didn't have too much trouble with it, and there's a lot of really intuitive controls to it. Their games keep getting better and better all around. Story was a bit predictable/basic, but considering the guy wrote it about/for his daughters, that kind of tracks. It was still well done overall, and the levels, set pieces and gameplay more than made up for anything it lacked elsewhere. Was super impressed the whole way through. Can't wait to see what these guys come up with next.

Last year's list Surprised I haven't been a game this year until today. 1. DOOM: The Dark Ages This honestly wasn't on my radar, I thought the dark ages thing meant it wasn't a traditional Doom game, but boy was I wrong. I liked it a hell (no pun intended) of a lot more than Doom Eternal. It had similar things where certain attacks would refill various things (armor, weapons, health, etc) but I think you weren't limited to one method per stat. Like, I think using the flamethrower would give you armor back, while using a melee would give you ammo back or something like that. This seemed to combine a few, so it felt like there were many different ways to refill your stuff. Being able to parry was a neat addition, but it's not something I need in other Doom games. I loved being able to throw your shield (eventually you get the ability to bounce it between enemies, Captain America style) and have it stick to a guy, which would basically stun it. I ended up mainly using the shield charge to get close to an enemy and blast it in the face with the super shotgun, rinse and repeat until most enemies were dead. I doubt that's as viable a strategy at higher difficulties though. There were a few levels where you would fly on a dragon, and a few where you'd pilot a mech and honestly, while they were neat, I don't really want to do those things in a Doom game. The mech at least felt cool, the dragon not as much. The dragon kind of boiled down to locking onto a turret, dodging its attack, and then counterattacking, no real crazy strategy, which made it pretty boring. The thing I never got tired of was the sensation of being this big, powerful guy. Your steps (at least when you're running) boom with each footstep, when you jump from a decently high area, you can land and create a shockwave that kills a bunch of fodder enemies, which was a lot of fun.

    1. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Gold Medal, 64:07 😎) 1a) Doom (1993) 2) Donkey Kong Country Returns Remastered (200%, All Kong Letters, Puzzle Pieces and Mirror Mode Levels Complete) 3) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (100%, All Figurines) Now I remember why I didn't try to 200% it. A few really cool levels and the Mine Cart and Rocket Blast levels were more creative (tbh thought giving the Rocket Barrel two hearts was a bit of a cop-out). Water levels weren't all that great and I didn't think the additions of Dixie and Cranky added all that much to the game beyond the water levels and a few secrets they were needed for. Bosses took way too many hits, and Hard Mode denying you save points while forcing you to collect all the Kong Letters without being hit makes it feel similar to time trials, not worth going for.

9.) South of Midnight Fantastic story, decent exploration, middling combat. I really enjoyed the characters, atmosphere, and general story which felt a little bit like a synthesis of Wizard of Oz meets Alice in Wonderland by way of a Southern Gothic style. Very entertaining all around. My only major complaint here is the game commits one of the cardinal sins of a story for me in that it foreshadows/sets situations up too blatantly so that you figure out what's going on WAY before the character does, and running through until the point they catch up with you just feels obnoxious and grating. Level design was fun but mechanics could get a little repetitive. Exploration and collectibles were straight forward, but still hidden well enough I didn't manage to get everything in one play through. Combat was the only weak spot overall, I felt. There was nothing particularly wrong with it. It functioned as it was meant to, and was serviceable. It just felt a bit divorced from the rest of the game (to the point that every point combat happens is basically cordoned off in its own little arena), and didn't really feel like it flowed well with the rest of the game. Overall, I did have a lot of fun with it though.

    1. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Gold Medal, 64:07 😎) 1a) Doom (1993) 2) Donkey Kong Country Returns Remastered (200%, All Kong Letters, Puzzle Pieces and Mirror Mode Levels Complete) Fuck doing time trial gold medals, but otherwise, can still ball with that game. Mirror Mode felt easier than last time I did it. Controls felt a bit off to me at first but I got used to them pretty quick.

8.) Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain This is a series that I've always been interested in, but never actually got around to playing ever. Since they just did the remaster for Soul Reaver 1 & 2, and they ran a Kickstarter for a super cool looking encyclopedia thing for the series, I figured I'd finally give it a shot and of course needed to start with the original one. XD You can really feel the age on this one, but damn it must have been a great game when it originally came out. The controls and menus and such are a bit painful to work with nowadays, but I can forgive that for just how much the game was trying to do for the time it came out. There was a lot to be impressed with when keeping things in perspective and I had a lot of fun playing it overall. Looking forward to eventually playing the rest. Also didn't realize that Amy Hennig was heavily involved in these games, so that's kind of neat seeing her older work.

    2025 Seasonal Anime

Finished up season 2 today. That show hit pretty hard at the end. There was a heavy setup for season three in the last episode of season 2. I can't decide if I would rather binge all of season 3 in one go (after is it out in like 2027 or whatever) or watch the weekly releases.
