  1. At first glance, I thought I wouldn't like Frieren... but I just read the synopsis and I think it might actually be really good! But I also don't want to end up in another Shield Hero situation where I'm just watching something because I have to finish it. I think it will be better than Shield Hero, even if that's a very low bar to surpass :rotfl:

    Indecision

  2. I totally agree re: Shield Hero. I'm watching it this season because, well, no good reason really. I don't like to leave things unfinished, I guess? But the first episode back wasn't great. Don't really care about what happens.

Still pressing on with JJK, naturally.

I think seeing the Shibuya Incident animated has been pretty damn fantastic overall! I have really been enjoying the new episodes.

edit: btw you didn't quite bump enough threads to totally take over the portal. Post harder next time! :rotfl:

I really enjoyed the Heisuke/Kamihate fight.  I think there's something poetic about the ending.  Part of Heisuke's block was that he couldn't commit to a kill shot, which held him back from committing to any meaningful shot.  But if he did commit, he'd live with the guilt of having killed someone.  He didn't physically win this fight, but he philosophically won by exposing Kamihate's face which is their personal loss as a sniper.  At the same time, he committed to the shot, and fate rewarded him with a victory that didn't require him to have blood on his hands.  And now he can move past the mental block and be the best sniper he's meant to be.

I really enjoyed these chapters too

I highly recommend Kaiju No. 8! It's a bit of an unsung juggernaut right now.

I keep saying I'm going to check it out but I never quite get to it :lurk: I've got less than 20 chapters left in my binge read of YuYu Hakusho, and then I'm going to pick JJBA: Golden Wind up again (about 1/3 through). Maybe then I will finally scope out Kaiju No. 8.

  4. I think you're gonna really like Horimiya: Piece. Some of the episodes were SO GOOD. What a wonderful cast of characters in this story. I think Iura's episode might have been my favourite, but it's hard to pick just one favourite episode/moment from it. So much to choose from.

Were you following Bungo Stray Dogs before? This latest season was... a mixed bag (IMO)... but still worth a look if you were following it before.

  5. Hearing that honestly made my day :shiny: Goddamn I loved Skip and Loafer. It's one of those "I wish I could watch it for the first time again" kind of shows. I was pretty bummed out when it was over. If we someday get a little companion series (sort of like Horimiya - Piece) then I will be thrilled.

  6. Feeling pretty good right now about my Rangers/Phils World Series prediction.

I don't want to like the Phillies, and I'm not a huge Harper fan... but it's hard to not like that team. They got that dog in them. Some serious scumbag energy too. (Like, the good kind of scumbag :rotfl:

  7. I was expecting more fireworks in the last couple chapters of Chainsaw Man... it's still interesting but kind of a letdown. Gimme more action. (Looks like that's where the next chapter is heading!)

  8. Nanami is a fuckin' boss. I am loving see this arc of JJK animated.

Pretty solid first episode back for Dr. Stone too.

Also, I ended up watching Shield Hero the other night... all the slave trade stuff is gross, I don't know why it needs to still be a part of the story...

  9. Braves are toast. 3 upsets in the Division Series. Only Houston made it out.

I feel like it's going to be a Rangers/Phils matchup in the World Series. Maybe those pesky Astros can still knock out the Rangers, but man that Rangers lineup is going to be tough. I would also love to see the DBacks beat the Phils in the NLCS, but they're a pretty young team still and I think Philly might be too much for them right now. Whatever happens, I am looking forward to the ALCS/NLCS, and it should be a good World Series whichever teams advance.

Rangers will go as far as the starting pitching can take them.

I'm not so sure about that... You always hear talk about how pitching and defense are most important in the postseason, and of course they are important, but hitting, and especially power hitting, is very critical in October too. I heard a stat on a podcast yesterday that every team that advanced from the WC round out-homered the other team. It's harder to string singles together in the postseason, so multiple HRs, and timely HRs, often win the game. The Rangers' lineup doesn't really have any easy outs. If they can just clobber the other team then perhaps their pitching isn't as key for them. Atlanta will need to try to do the same thing. Philly is a pretty tough match up for them.

@Psycho666Soldier are you still keeping up with all the good stuff in Jump?

I have kept up-to-date with everything. Don't really have any specific comments about anything except that JJK continues to be a weird mix of good (at times) but also confusing AF. Just make the Culling Game arc end already :rotfl: Overall, I am enjoying everything I'm following right now. Some of the new titles especially.

I'm about 105 chapters into YuYu Hakusho, nearing the end of the Dark Tournament arc. God damn I love this story. Togashi, please return with more H×H chapters whenever you're able

  12. Marlins didn't even win a WC game :rotfl: But it was a nice idea!

Every WC series was a two-game sweep. Bye-bye Rays, Jays, Marlins, and Brewers. The WC was a dud this year IMO. Hardly any competitive games. The scores were closest in the Twins/Jays games, but if you watched the games, you know that they weren't actually that close. The Jays got beat quite easily by the Twins. I expected more from the Jays, Rays, and Brewers... but, oh well.

The Phillies are a sneaky good team right now. Despite how incredible the Braves were this year, I would not be shocked to see the Phils beat them in the NLDS and make another run to the World Series. A WS win would really be a feather in Bryce Harper's cap. He's done pretty much everything else.

On the AL side, I would like to see the Twins and O's match up in the ALCS. Fresh faces. I was really impressed by the Twins the last couple days. I don't know if I can bring myself to cheer for the O's, even though they have lots of likeable players. And I definitely don't want to be cheering for the Rangers. So it's either Houston or Minnesota by default that gets my support in the ALCS.

  13. The bracket is set!

I think the Jays can beat Minnesota, but it's a pretty close match-up and I won't be shocked to see them lose. The Twins are playing quite well the last couple months.

  14. I think the Jays could have trouble with either the Rays or Twins. They're just so inconsistent. Now would be the ideal time to get hot... but it doesn't seem like they're going to do that.

  15. Well... that's it for Seattle :( That's a bummer. A step back from last year. Hopefully they can change some stuff up in the winter and come back better next year!

The Jays are in the WC for sure, but clinching because another team lost is rather anti-climactic. The Jays should have been able to beat the Rays yesterday. Ah well...

Right now the postseason picture has Toronto playing Tampa in the WC series, as they're in the 3rd spot. That could potentially change though if both Houston and Texas lose today and the Jays win. I think the Rays will be more inclined to rest guys today because they used a lot of their big bullpen arms yesterday, and today's game doesn't really mean anything for them. Hopefully the Jays can finish on a strong note and beat up on the Rays today. Who knows what happens in the other games though. Houston plays Arizona and Texas plays Seattle.

Netflix has ep 9 for Zom 100 and I'm assuming Hulu does too. I'm hoping they don't keep up with the breaks in between eps because it's LITERALLY 3 EPS LEFT. Especially now that we have a Dark Akira variant here it seems.

It sounds like the show has lost it's broadcast slot on TV in Japan going into the fall season because of some other show... and I guess it needs to air on TV in Japan before it goes onto the streaming services (there's a delay of like 12 or 24 hours from broadcast to when it goes live on Crunchyroll IIRC). Looks like it is basically in hiatus for now until the broadcasting situation can get sorted in Japan. Which is a bummer since there are only three episodes left.

    • Sad 1

  17. Saturday night was a bittersweet one with both Horimiya and MIX ending. They were both very good. Part of me is sad to see them end, but the other part is glad to be left wanting more. I hope there will be a third season of MIX eventually... I'd really love to see the boys finally make it to Koshien...

Not much left (for me) from summer season now. One more episode of AI no Idenshi, and the last few episodes of Zom 100... but it seems nobody knows when they're going to air yet. According to Crunchyroll: "Following up on Japan's episode 9 broadcast for the Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead anime, the official accounts commented on plans for the remaining episodes. The plan at the moment isa bit of a wait and see approach for the rest of us, as broadcast timing for episodes 10-12 has yet to be confirmed." So, after we get episode 9 (tomorrow I think?), who knows about the last three. That's kind of annoying.

  18. Astros and M's on three-game losing streaks :uhoh: Good to see Houston falling off but Seattle needs to start winning games.

The Jays won a series at the Trop this weekend, which is something I'm thrilled about. Only six games left to go!

  19. The final episode of Stray Dogs was going quite well, I thought. I have enjoyed this story quite a bit, but at the same time, I feel like I've had enough. And this season in particular was getting a bit too random for me. It could have ended rather nicely. Then came the final minute or so with the brief time skip and mysterious bad guy and the dreaded "To be continued" text on the screen. Hopefully the show takes a break for at least a few season---maybe until next summer?---before coming back. Otherwise I'm just not gonna be able to get hyped up for it.

  20. Well, things are looking a bit better for the Jays now. Not exactly a slam dunk just yet, but I am more confident now about their WC odds. The lose the tie-breaker with the M's (and Rangers) though so if there's a tie for the 2nd/3rd WC spots then the Jays come up last. Seattle shouldn't try to get cute and play for the 6th seed. Just gotta get in no matter the position.

  21. The M's are back in the win column after a couple games against Oakland. Seattle and Texas are tied for the third WC spot, only a game behind Toronto :uhoh: Gonna be a close finish! Baltimore has been beating up on the Astros the last couple days too, so the ALW division race is getting super tight again.
