  1. I really enjoyed seeing Denji hear how weird the church was and saying screw it.  It's actually a good foil to what you were talking where it seemed like he was just going along with what he's told, where instead now he's thinking a bit more critically.

Agreed on Beat & Motion.  It was nice to see him still say something even if it wasn't exactly what he wanted to say.  It felt like the message got across regardless.

As for Shojo Null, I'm fully caught up now, and I kind of get the vibe the whole series is over-the-top lol.

    Spoiler

The 3rd chapter was really good, though.  The playwright who has the gijin actually kill onstage and leading to the forced revolt.  Overall, very intrigued to see where it goes.

I also loved the Sakamoto #131

    Spoiler

You can't help but love how they take such a ridiculous chapter and turn it into something heartfelt and meaningful, which is kind of the MO of this whole manga.  I was cracking up at the antics between Hana and Kashima.  His reactions were golden, and then the way he ended up using his ridiculous ass customizations to cheer her up when she cried.  Great shit.

  2. It's good to hear from you!  I'm sorry about your sister and the complications your dad has been dealing with, but it sounds like a lot of things are looking up for you, so here's to nothing but awesome things in your near future!

No new chapters this weekend :|

But we did get a new Chainsaw Man today

Denji is getting used all over again :rotfl: :rotfl:

This kind of feels a bit like a repeat of the first part, where the person who seemingly wants to help Denji is ultimately bad in the end (like Makima all over again). That feels too predictable though so I'm assuming there will be a twist.

    Chainsaw Man

    Spoiler

I think the difference I'm seeing here is that both sides are very clearly trying to use Dennis for different things, and I think we'll get to a point where Dennis gets to make a choice that is purely what he wants to do.  Though it's also possible neither side is seeking dominance like Makima was.

But also, how the hell do you argue with steak every day?!

I also just read the first chapter of Shojo Null and I'm IN

Well, we have our conclusion to this little saga with Wheeler!

Almost got me--I thought for a second there that Yuri actually figured out Loid. But of course, Twilight is always a step ahead. Even if juuuuuuust barely.

After all this, I feel like it's the right time to shift the focus onto either Anya or Yor again for a bit. I'd love to see a new story arc centered on Anya and her school buddies, with maybe another Stella coming out of it. But the whole terrorist/bus incident was pretty recent. Maybe Yor is next in line to get some of the spotlight. Kind of hard to complain, whatever we get! I am still really enjoying this series.

    Spoiler

Ditto on Yuri.  That page turn was perfect because I thought it was gonna be over.  I also always enjoy these extended intimate moments with Loid and Yor.  Felt really good to see Yor get so happy to be able to help Loid and hear her explain that.

I kind of get the feeling we'll get a few self-contained chapters before we get to another big story.  I'd like to see some more intersection with Anya/Damian/Yor/Damian's Mom.  Feels like that's some fresh meat we still have to dig into.

  5. Akane-banashi #73

    Spoiler

Yeah, this was a heartbreaking chapter.  Especially the end when she broke down about wanting to win with her Dad's story.  Like you said, knew it was coming, but I was really pulling for her and wanted to see her get the win.  Fucking Kaisei ruining shit.

Haven't checked out Shojo Null yet, but it's on my list.  Along with Wild Strawberry.

  6. I didn't get very far.  I think I got like 10 chapters in?  They basically just fought the first stand user that attacks in Josuke's house and that's about as far as I got.  Wasn't so much for lack of interest as I had just binged Stardust Crusaders hard and had a bit of burnout.

  7. I finally tried out Martial Master Asumi.  Seems like a better Neru(except I liked the art a tad better) plotwise.  The art is great, the fights are engaging, and I really like the way they've built the protagonist.  Also feels like I picked it up where the last chapter was properly setting up the rest of the series.  So if you're interested, I think it's safe to say you'll know whether you like it after the first 7 chapters.

Also, now that you've started Diamond is Unbreakable, maybe it's time I pick it back up?

  8. Elusive Samurai

    Spoiler

Feels like it was kind of a non-victory with Ienaga plotting something with the retreat.  I think it was mostly a way of showing how effective Akiie is as a strategist and to reannounce Tokiyuki as alive to the world.

I get what they were going for, but I kinda thought the "Prejudice doesn't matter if you do it with respect" angle was kinda yucky.  But I imagine the point wasn't to say that it's ok to speak vile and more was just showing more commanding styles for Tokiyuki to take the best lessons from.  It was still kind of a bruh moment though.

Seriously! I don't really understand what is actually happening with X... but I'm curious to see what happens next.

Cliffhanger in Akane-banashi this week... please tell me she won the competition! Need to see what happens next week.

More good stuff in The Elusive Samurai, but it feels like things went a bit too easily... Waiting for the other shoe to drop :uhoh:

This week's new chapters of Wild Strawberry and Chainsaw Man were good stuff too. I have pretty high hopes for Wild Strawberry, but you never know. Let's see next week what this new character is all about.

    Sakamoto Days

    Spoiler

I actually went back and read chapters 119 and 120 and it had a whole different tone and meaning behind it knowing that X is actually Rion.  Or absorbed her consciousness or something.  The way they mentioned Akira helping them "change" comes off a bit like it's a split personality sort of thing, but where both personalities are legit consciousnesses of both people.  Curious.

  10. Still catching up on some things, but I just finished up to he most recent Beat & Motion

    Spoiler

What a strangely tense chapter.  In a good way.  They had the moments with the long shots focusing on Status sipping his drink and stuff and then Nico seemed really happy with the storyboard and it didn't all click until the last couple pages.  I just loved the transition from him worrying that he objectified her for her status to the panel of her asking to go to the fireworks.  That shit made my heart blip.

Akane-banashi has been wonderful.  Seems like a strong moment of self discovery, but I'm really hoping she gets the victory.  She deserves it.

Also still been liking Ichinose Family, but I feel the execution of the last 2 chapters was a bit rushed/sloppy, so it definitely made for a narrative dissonance with where they expect us to be emotionally.  I'm still into the mystery surrounding his parents and what they do/don't know/what happened with the accident.

I'm also super hype for what come next in Sakamoto Days.

Also, that last Chainsaw Man chapter?  That shit was wild and was probably one of the best chapters they've had in a while.  Great work.  Feels like the anime could really rock with that part.

  11. Caught up.  Agree with dr. b, this was a rad chapter for art.  You can tell Endo had some of his actions roots to let fly this chapter, both in the style and the storytelling behind it.

    Spoiler

I love that Nightfall pushed her body to the point of breaking her physical limits without hurting herself.  Very My Hero of them, lol.  It's also kind of nice to see Loid properly bested for once and seeing Nightfall actually save him instead of the other way around.  The reactions from Wheeler were really satisfying, too.

I assure you I am actively playing it at the moment. Not sure how far am I in at this point but probably not terribly far. Having 4 kids means I have limited time to use my TV/Playstation. X_x

Even got the fancy collectors edition for this one. XD
It's been pretty fun so far. Story is interesting if very Game of Thrones feeling. Not sure I'm a huge fan of the combat at the moment, but the Eikon battles are a hell of a spectacle at least.

Yeah, I'm like...I dunno, halfway through it?  I got to the point where the game opens up and have done like 3 main missions since then?  Not sure how much is left for me but I've probably put in about 35-40 hours.

Storywise it's easily in the top 3-5 so far from where I'm at.  I agree that the combat is kinda lacking a bit.  Like it's good, but I feel like they nailed it better with the FF7 Remake.  The lack of a true party dynamic/switching between characters takes away some of the magic for me.

Even beyond that, I've been loving it so far.

  13. Yeah, I've been enjoying this story

    Spoiler

It feels like it's been a minute since we got a serious Twilight caper like this, and having the first proper showdown with Yuri was a sight to behold.  I'm curious what happens with Nightfall and Wheeler.  I assume she's about to go psycho on him, but I kinda get the feeling he might actually get away.

I love how well this show pulls off the spy drama/action when they want to go that route.

I am a bit disappointed that the chapters seem to be getting smaller, same as Chainsaw Man.   If we gotta wait every couple weeks, I would hope we could get at least 24-30 pages.  But also I know this shit is tiring and I think Endo does most of the work, so as long as it's quality, I'll still be reading.

At least it's not like My Hero Academia where they're clearly just trying to milk the ending for as many weeks as they can get :ugh:

  14. I don't know how I missed the Otoboke Beaver post.  Their stuff is great.  Saw them here in Chicago a few months back and their crowd control is amazing.  One of the better shows I've been to.

Also love that Domi & JD Beck album.  The sameyness is a thing, but when I enjoy it so much, it's just really cool to get lost in the vibe of the album.  Definitely excited to see what else they have in the pipeline for later albums.  Also just a lot of cool guest features.

    • Love 1

  15. Definitely enjoyed the last two chapters of Chainsaw Man, even if it feels a bit random at the moment.

    Spoiler

Asa wrestling with her love for Chainsaw Man to the point of spontaneously reciting poetry about him was pretty hilarious.  I'm expecting this person touching Denji's "Weiner" is either a demon or someone meant to distract him from some fucked up shit about to happen.

  16. Reminder to reply here once I catch up because I've slacked the last two weeks.

Have you read Tenmaku Cinema?  I didn't think I'd be a big fan at first, but it's been a pretty enjoyable follow so far.

  17. 1. :switch: Pokemon Violet

    2. :snes: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

    3. :switch: Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage

    4. :switch: Octopath Traveler

    5. :gba: Metroid II: Return of Samus

    6. :ps1: Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssee

    7. :ps4: God of War (2018)

    8. :ps1: Crash Bandicoot

    9. :ps5: Spider-Man Remastered

Crash Bandicoot is another game I started playing with my partner. We just went through and beat it as is. I think I'll slowly work on getting all the gems, but surviving some of those stages by getting all the boxes and not dying sounds like torture, so happy to count this as completion.

Just finished Spider-Man yesterday. 100% the main game and got the platinum trophy. Really fun game that feels like a natural evolution of Spider-Man 2 way back in the 2000s. Webslinging was superb, and I had a lot of fun finding different ways to travel by trying to reach the benchmarks. I liked the greater crime varieties, and the combat was pretty fluid. The story was really well done, perfect blending comic book canon with an altered history where not ALL major events have happened yet. I liked the unique turns they took, and unlike the previous games, they did a great job of making you feel like Peter Parker as well as Spider-Man. I think the boss battles could have been a bit harder and/or more dynamic, because as is they were just glorified versions of the usual beat-em-up brawls with grunts, but there were still some cool moments. The MJ missions were mostly annoying until the very last one, though. Could have done without.

    Story Spoilers

I teared up pretty hard when Aunt May died. Was not expecting that, and to frame it as Peter's choice to save her or save many was just heart-wrenching. Also the reveal that Norman is using a symbiote to try and heal Harry was a wild twist that had me hollering at the screen. Definitely has me hyped for the sequel.

At some point I'll play the DLC and go for the Remastered specific trophies, but not sure I'll ever get around to a New Game+. At this point I'm ready to give Miles Morales a spin and get hyped for Spider-Man 2.

  18. More Part-Timer means I need to finally sit down and finish the first season and catch up.

Not a lot here that I'm really following or familiar with so I'll probably do the usual of deciding if I want to watch any of the shows you're all talking about.

I'm excited for the Sand Land adaptation, though
