The Elusive Samurai #109 Finally something exciting is set to happen in Jujutsu Kaisen We also skipped ahead to big stuff in Akane-banashi! I am kind of nervous to see things go for Akane. Latest chapters of Sakamoto Days have been great too. Very curious to see the conclusion of these flashback chapters.

Lots of good stuff this week The Elusive Samurai Fabricant 100 Akane-banashi I am feeling pretty lost in Ichinose Family right now A bit reminiscent of PPPPPP in that regard. Eventually I assume it will all make sense. And I think I am even more lost in Jujutsu Kaisen. Gonna need to read a plot summary when the Culling Game arc ends New chapters of Gokurakugai and Show-ha Shoten! hit today too. I will read them tonight.

I liked the chapter this week too. There’s more to it than what I might have thought last week, but it’s also not too convoluted. Pretty good balance in that regard. Situation is getting critical again this week in The Elusive Samurai! Sakamoto was short this week

Yeah that was an interesting little piece of background info showing the Dr. Gero family tree.

Every week I read all the new chapters and I feel like I have so many things to comment on, and then I pull up this thread and my brain mostly draws a blank I am enjoying the flashback in Sakamoto too. I feel like the happenings in the past are going to explain a lot about Slur's motivations. I am also super curious to see what happens next in The Elusive Samurai. Fun times sight-seeing in Kamakura are on hold for now..! Back to the action. Ichinose Family #17 You up to date on DB Super as well? We're properly getting into the Super Hero story now. I guess reading it after having seen the movie already is a bit boring, but whatever, the movie was a really good time so I'll enjoy reading the manga adaptation too.

Wow, we're definitely on the same wavelength here My gut says Nico remembers more than she is letting on during her drunken outbursts. I dunno why. Probably wrong I didn't start Jiangshi X yet. I might circle back to it if it enjoys a long-ish run and seems to pick up some momentum. But if it meets an early end then I figure why even bother I've been thinking about maybe picking up World Trigger if I have time for some binge reading. I watched the first season of the anime way back (hard to believe that was nine years ago! ) and enjoyed it well enough (not that I remember much about it anymore!). It must be doing something right if it's still running...

Finally got round to checking out some of the new stuff. Beat & Motion is definitely a winner in my books! Nico is hilarious The art is a bit generic IMHO so it's not as nice to look at as some other series that I'm enjoying at the moment, but I like the basis for the story. I actually read the first two chapters at like 3am this morning when I couldn't get back to sleep while stressing over some dumb work shit in the middle of the night, and this idea of "You just died today, now you should do what you really want to do" struck a chord. Gokurakugai is also interesting, though I am not as into the concept as I am Beat & Motion. The latest Chainsaw Man (123) also has some good stuff going on. Asa is in a bit of trouble here! Denji to the rescue? Or does she save herself?

^ I'm in agreement about pretty much all of that! Ichinose Family has been rather captivating lately, after a brief lull for a few chapters The Masamune stuff in Elusive Samurai has been super rad, and those weapons are cool AF Chainsaw Man has overall been good, and even when it's not great the vibes are still pretty cool, but it would totally benefit from a longer format (eg, like Choujin X which often has closer to 30 pages, sometimes more... you should totally get caught up on it if you haven't yet ) Akane-banashi continues to be great overall and now that PPPPPP is over Akane is easily my favourite current artsy manga ( PPPPPPP) Every new Show-ha Shoten! is loaded with good stuff even when I don't really get the Japanese stand-up humour Are you caught up on Sakamoto and DB Super? @Anelle thoughts re: latest JJK chapters???
-
Yeah overall I'm pretty disappointed by how PPPPPP ended. Chapters the last several weeks have been mostly hard to follow, and then the sudden ending. Felt like it was a bit rushed, even if it was already close to reaching the end point. I agree about that one thing though---Lucky slugging his dad on the final page was a nice touch. So much of what led up to it was a mess though Did you ever catch up on Choujin X? A loooooot happened in the latest chapter (35). It was a lot to take in. Not as good IMO as the chapters that preceded it, but it seems like we're building up to more cool stuff happening.

I wasn’t going to check out the new one right away, but with PPPPPP done now (total bummer!) I guess there is a spot open on my reading list…
-
Latest chapter of Ichinose Family was very good stuff too … PPPPPP was a bit more interesting, and made more sense, this week. I would rather just get back to focusing on Lucky… but I guess I’m also up for Dada-sensei’s back story.

Loved the new chapter of The Elusive Samurai (97) this week

Kinda feels like both Sakamoto Days and Elusive Samurai could be building up to big final showdowns soon-ish. Other non-spoiler random thoughts: I feel like PPPPPP has lost its direction—or I just don’t get what’s going on these past few chapters (totally possible ). In any case, I’m not enjoying it is much anymore… I am absolutely loving these ‘Fetching Tea’ chapters of Akane-banashi Interesting twist in JJK this week! Overall, I am getting tired of the Culling Game arc, but events at the end of this week’s chapter have renewed my interest.

Yeah that was pretty wild. Good timing too since it was kinda starting to get boring. Now I'm intrigued all over again. The looping thing is reminiscent a bit of Erased ( if I'm remembering that correctly... )

Another solid new chapter of Choujin X, only 5 days after the previous chapter. This manga has a really weird schedule. Or, less a schedule, more of a "whenever Ishida is ready" release cycle. In any case, I will say it again, it's been really good lately Chainsaw Man #117

re: Sakamoto: I was starting to feel pretty tired of movie guy, so I hope this is the last of him for a while now. The fighting in this chapter was good though. Akane-banashi Tokiyuki's the best Choujin X continues to be exciting. Consistently several very good chapters in a row now

Yup Me too. It usually starts to make sense eventually… maybe next chapter will clarify things a bit.

HxH is on hiatus again. I figured it was going to happen again soon, but it is still a sad thing to see.

I finished JJBA: Stardust Crusaders last night. The short review: I actually enjoyed it a lot in the end. There was a stretch there when I was not enjoying it. I think it was a bit a ‘quantity over quality’ problem with so many stand users introduced one after another. Some were just too silly for me. But once the team hit Egypt, the enemy stand users got more interesting and everything got better as a result. The final chapters against Dio were especially good. I am in no hurry to start reading Diamond is Unbreakable, but I will continue with it someday in the future.

Have you still been reading Choujin X? The last few chapters have been pretty awesome
-
Yes, hooray for a new DB Super chapter!

Anybody else get the Shonen Jump year in review email? Apparently my top 5 most read series of 2022 were: Jujutsu Kaisen Death Note JJBA: Part 2 (Battle Tendency) Hunter × Hunter PPPPPP I assume that the other current stuff that I read weekly that have been running all year (Elusive Samurai, Sakamoto, etc., etc.) would rank about the same as PPPPPP in terms of number of chapters, but the list cuts off at 5. Kind of surprised that JJBA: Part 3 (Stardust Crusaders) didn't make the cut, because I'm like 90 chapters into it now (decided to just soldier on and finish it). I guess the metrics were taken a bit before the email was sent out.
