Elusive Samurai # 237 (Epilogue Part 1 of 2) Goddamn I love this series. I guess it's over next week? Genba is a real one I'm glad Tadafuyu didn't have to die. It's a bit disappointing that Takauji seemingly didn't die in battle... but if that's how it actually went down in the history books then there's not much the author can do about that. This chapter seems to have wrapped up the history/facts-based part of the story, so I guess the final chapter will allow the author to take some creative liberties and hopefully end the manga on a fun note. It better get some sweet colour pages.

Elusive Samurai # 236 Tokiyuki and the boys went down in a blaze of glory Page 15 man... Ahh... That was fun! What a way to go. I rather like Tokiyuki's approach to life. If you had fun at the end of the day, despite whatever challenges you had to deal with - and his life was full of them! - then it's a win. The end of Tokiyuki's life was very moving for me. I still love this series. I'm not getting even a tiny bit tired of it. So I wish it could continue, but obviously we're very near the end here. I guess we get at least one more chapter summarizing the final years of Takauji's life. I hope we also get a glimpse of what happens with Shizuku, Ayako, and Mima. Sakamoto Days # 246 After the last chapters, I wasn't expecting to switch back to what Nagumo is doing. I kinda forgot he was still in action TBH But this was a good one anyways. Fun action. Akane-banashi # 192 Akane is once again up against a big challenge. Will she pull a rabbit out of her hat and find a way to make her God of Death stand up against Kaisei's...? Kagurabachi # 110 The battle that's been on-going over the last few chapters has been absolutely epic. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for next week's chapter! You've gotta check this one out eventually if you haven't given it a try yet. The story gets a bit convoluted in places, at least I felt that way reading week-to-week, but it might flow a bit better when you can read a bunch of chapters at once. JJK Modulo # 20 It's slowly starting to win me over... The last few chapters have been legit good. And now Itadori has made an appearance

I never gave Otr of the Flame a try. Kinda assumed it wouldn't last. I just looked it up in the Jump app and apparently chapter # 34 (just a couple weeks ago) was the final chapter. So, if I'm ever bored, I guess I might as well zip through it. Wouldn't take long to read 34 chapters. Of the other new-ish ones that I never tried out, Ichi the Witch seems to be doing well (67 chapters and counting, and seems to be popular). Shinobi Undercover and Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi are also in the 60-70 chapter ballpark so there must be something good about them. I think I'd rather wait for some of these to finish, and then check them out and binge-read them if they're good enough. I highly recommend Someone Hertz if you haven't started on it yet. It's very good IMHO. Also, are you caught up on Witch Watch? It's starting to get really exciting again. Higher stakes than collecting butterflies.

Harukaze Mound ended today at 30 chapters. That was a bit of a bummer. For a hurried ending, it wrapped up pretty nicely. I would have liked to get more of this story instead of rushing straight to the ending (time skip) but at least it was an uplifting ending. I'll fill in all the blanks with my imagination I guess. It sure seems tough for sports manga to last. Ekidon Bros (marathon running) didn't get past 20 chapters. It wasn't an incredible series or anything, but I thought it was enjoyable enough. The recent-ish golf and ping pong mangas also got cut rather quickly. And of course Martial Master Asumi didn't last super long despite being quite good IMHO. Blue Box, on the other hand, seems to be going strong still. I still haven't read it. Tried watching the first episode when it premiered on Netflix and it didn't really grab me. Maybe I should give it a second chance. The new one this week is called Under Doctor. An assassin turned doctor (presumably an underworld, back alley, kinda doctor?) I'm not going to try it out just yet. I'll wait and see if any of the other new ones I'm reading (Gonron, Someone Hertz, Mage Next Door, JJK Modulo) have any staying power. Odds are at least one of them will end prematurely if the popularity isn't there. So I'll wait for another one to end eventually before trying another new one. I'm enjoying learning more about Shomei in Akane-banashi. Wasn't happen to see... Zensho (?) appear in the final pages though. He's probably going to do something with the Isshokai to mess with Akane

Agreed on both! I enjoyed this week’s chapter of Elusive Samurai a lot. One last game of tag 🥲 The idea of using fun house mirrors to get to the real Uzuki in Sakamoto Days was clever too. I’m curious to see what twists and turns remain in this fight. I doubt Sakamoto has solved Uzuki’s multiple personality thing this easily…?

It certainly would be less of a heartbreaker if Tokiyuki dies from illness, so I agree that would be much less of a gut punch. I guess it would feel somewhat anti-climactic though Still don't want it to end

Elusive Samurai # 234 It's almost over for Tokiyuki and the boys I feel conflicted about this arrangement with Takauji. It makes sense and all that, but it's somewhat of a bummer at the same time. Tokiyuki is a true leader though, that's for sure Very curious to see his final shenanigans in the last chapter(s) Kurumizawa's Folly # 12 I feel bad for Hata, what a messed up life for this poor kid. The last page of this chapter... Sakamoto # 244 I saw it coming a mile away but this was chapter was still 100% awesome. Sakamoto comes back at just the right time. Bad ass. And then writing on the camera Kagurabachi # 108 This fight has been epic. Look forward to this title more and more every week. Very gritty art style. Witch Watch # 232 It's getting serious again! I am very excited for this arc, hopefully it doesn't let me down. Someone Hertz # 17 Beautiful colour cover pages in this chapter. I love the characters and character designs in this series. Mizuo The page of her crying on the swing was very impactful. You'll get 'em next time! Spy Fam # 127.3 Amusing little back story Ms. Schlag (Goraimaru Narukami )

My top #5 in 2025. No surprise that it’s all series that I started from the beginning and binge read. Not sure why Blue Exorcist didn't make the cut. I binged to current on that over the last few weeks. Those monthly titles (Seraph, Twin Stars, Blue Exorcist) have some beefy chapters! Both Seraph of the End and Blue Exorcist seem to be nearing the endings. Could be several months before they actually finish though.

Lots of good stuff this week in Jump I don't have comments on everything, but a few thoughts popped into my head... Spy Fam #125 Bill is officially one of my favourite dudes now. Tonitrus Bolt is no big deal, we gotta help Mr. Henderson! Then taking out the gym coach as a 6 year old Elusive Samurai #228 It's really going to end soon Seems like we skipped a chunk of time here from the previous chapter to this one. Interesting turn for Takauji after they drove the evil spirit from his body. What will the final encounter between him and Tokiyuki be like..? Akane-banashi # 184 That last page... Master Issho seems like such an evil bastard Surely it will all be explained later in the story as some grand plan of his to ultimately benefit rakugo, but his methods seem to be rather suspect. Someone Hertz #11 I just love the vibe of this one. The two main characters are so darn likeable. Kagurabachi #102 I feel like the battle that's about to start is going to be epic. Very hyped. Could be the beginning of the end of the story. I am curious to see what happens.

I know, what a cliffhanger! Things really escalated fast in this chapter of Kurimizawa. And it’s on a two week release schedule now so we gotta wait for the next one to drop Does he wriggle his way out of this situation somehow or does it all come crumbling down??? I love the style and an athletics of Gonron Egg too. Something about the looks of it grabbed me right away. There’s a bit of rawness to it that I like. Not everything needs to be super polished. The story and dialogue are quite simple. I assume it has to get deeper at some point if it doesn’t get axed early. We’ll see.
-
Anya will set things straight for Mr. Henderson even if he decides to call it quits in the end 😤 Ditto on Elusive Samurai. I love this series. Have you checked out Gonron Egg or Mage Next Door? They’re both pretty decent so far.
-
Witch Watch #225 Whoa, I did not see that coming!!! Part #3 starts now. It’s serious. The Elusive Samurai #227 It’s going to end soon
-
Spy Fam #124 I'm enjoying this little story arc. This guy who did Mr. Henderson dirty better get caught. Anya to the rescue! The Elusive Samurai #226 Kojiro is a certified badass Sooooooo close. But the important thing is he got out of there alive. Phew! I enjoyed all the other new stuff this week but I guess I don't have much else that jumped out at me to comment on. Still think Gonron Egg is cool after three chapters. And the first two chapters of The Mage Next Door were better than I expected them to be. I like how Osoegawa is this sort of super-mage, but his magic is all about random stuff to make life more convenient, and yet he can use it in clever ways to out-wit and overpower other mages. It's sort of similar to Sakamoto in the sense that Sakamoto is very strong and skilled, but he also uses pens or whatever else is around him to win a fit instead of the stereotypically OP weapons like guns, etc. Finally, Someone Hertz is rapidly becoming one of my most-looked-forward-to new chapters every week. I love the art style and the subtle humour. It's very charming.
-
Elusive Samurai #225 Kojiro is smooth AF Him and Nagao better come back alive! Witch Watch #224 Awwwwww they’re adorable I like how quickly the story is getting going in Gonron Egg. I’ll keep reading it. Not an incredibly original story premise but it’s interesting anyhow. Another new one this week, The Mage Next Door. I didn’t read it yet.

Totally agree. Takauji breaking the fourth wall (I think I'm using that term correctly? ) to tell the reader about he's the good guy was a fun element. I remain unconvinced by his arguments! I still look forward to Elusive Samurai every week with lots of excitement, and I will be a bit sad when it ends, but I guess we will be arriving at the end fairly soon. I don't want to jinx it, but I don't see how Matsui could possibly botch the ending at this point. This manga has been consistently very good for a long time now and he seems to have the whole story planned out very nicely. I suppose it helps that it's based on historical events, but obviously he's taking some artistic liberties to make it more compelling in manga format. He just has to stick the landing now.
-
I liked the first chapter of Gonron Egg a lot. Looking forward to seeing where it goes. I like the art style.
-
I am really into Kurumizawa's Folly! So, did he also exploit an assistant with his previous series..? (Cyber Joe?) Or did I misunderstand something that happened in the previous chapter. He starts out as a down-on-his-luck kind of character but perhaps he was a scammer all along. That last page of last week's chapter - "He's lying to you!" - was a great cliffhanger.
-
Agreed! Akane-banashi #180 was a very nice wrap to the Zuiun Prize tournament. Fireworks on the beach and then a night of boozing. Wish I was there with them! Elusive Samurai #224 Did they finally get him??? Tokiyuki's arrow travelling up Takauji's arm and then through his back was kinda ridiculous but cool anyways. Tokiyuki's reflections and thought processes in this chapter were really mature for such a young character. He's a genuinely likeable character, not a single flaw. Witch Watch #223 Totally forgot there was one butterfly left somewhere out there..! I liked how that came together. Naturally, now I expect something very bad to happen. Probably the Warlocks show up soon to ruin everything. But the whole squad has been training to get stronger and they won't get caught off guard this time. Sakamoto #234 Very curious to see how Seba gets out of this miss. The invisible/indestructible ICU room seemed too good to be true Gotta love this series for coming up with the most outlandish concepts. Ekiden Bros. ended. Fairly satisfying ending. Didn't expect it to last very long... And it didn't. No new chapter for Kagurabachi this week. That was a bummer. The art has been rather rough in spots the last couple months. Maybe the author needed some extra time. The story is still good although it's getting confusing with all the characters involved in what's happening right now. Perhaps not a good sign. There was a new one - Gonron Egg - which I've yet to look at. Maybe later today. I need to read the new Dandadan and Chainsaw Man chapters first.

Lots of great stuff this week, but these two are the most important/notable to me. Akane-banashi # 179 Witch Watch # 222
-
Forgot to mention Dogsred in my big post. I am still following and really enjoying it. The game that's been happening over the last several chapters has been really satisfying. If you are even remotely interested in hockey, I recommend giving it a look. Super fun cast of characters.

Same here! I've been thinking a lot of thoughts about manga for weeks and weeks and weeks now with nobody to chat about it with Should have logged back in here a long time back Agreed re: Kaiju No. 8. The possibilities of the story kinda got maxed out, otherwise it would have just gotten silly. Had to end. re: Witch Watch: Part of me also wonders how it's continued as long as it has, but I'm super glad it has. It's such a quirky cast of characters. Very fun. re: Dandadan: I am still watching and thoroughly enjoying the anime too. The introduction of Kinta in the anime has not disappointed. That fucking guy cracks me up. Kinta the end of joytoy pegasus Sakata The story continues to get better for a while yet before it plateaus and then (IMHO) begins to stagnate. (But this could just be a case of me being a dumbass Maybe eventually seeing the current arc animated will change my mind) Someone Hertz is definitely a winner so far in my books. Highly recommend. I would also suggest you take a look at Kurumizawa's Folly. It's an interesting concept and I like the old fashioned aesthetics. It's a period piece and I have really enjoyed the first few chapters. I also thought about checking out Otr of the Flame but never got 'round to it. Speaking of other new ones, did you check out The Marshal King? I really wanted to like it but I found it to be a let down and gave up on it rather quickly. If you've been reading it and think it's been better recently then maybe I would give it another shot. I felt like the first chapter had so much potential and was building up this cool world and concept... and then Jimmu had to go to school 😐 Just feels like such an overused concept. The last couple pages of the first chapter soured me on it. I read it a few more weeks after that and it just couldn't hold my interest. Ah well.

Oh man... so many series to comment on... Manga is the one thing I've really kept up with. Undead Unluck had a solid ending. I enjoyed it. I still wanted more Beat & Motion in my life but I agree it was a good place to end it. That was a special series. The recent ending of Kaiju No. 8 kind of caught me off guard. Knew it was coming but I thought maybe there would be a couple more chapters. It was an OK ending. Not bad but could have been better. Show-ha Shoten! on the other hand, I thought stuck around just a bit too long. Probably could have been one or two chapters less. But it was a pretty satisfactory ending all things considered. The final competition was great. Wild Strawberry got worse and worse as it slowly worked towards the end. Only 50 chapters so I think it's worth a look in any case. Started with quite a bit of promise but didn't get a great finish. Kill Blue is one I started binge reading just a couple months ago. Then it ended rather abruptly only a few weeks after I got caught up I really enjoyed this one. Lots of fun and likeable characters, and a kooky premise. The ending wasn't super smooth but it worked well enough. Give it a look if you haven't tried it yet. A couple more I picked up and quickly binged to current on, similar to Kill Blue, were WITCH WATCH and Hima-Ten!. Both series are extremely fun. So many likeable characters. Hima-Ten! is a bit more fanservice-y than I would typically go for, but it's tasteful enough. Honoka is absolutely the best girl Not that Himari or Kanna are bad choices either Spy x Family continues on at its weird pace. Recent chapters have been good. I'm curious to see if the story ever ends or if it stays mostly episodic and has a non-ending whenever the author is done with it. I wouldn't mind that. We can use our imaginations. The Elusive Samurai is approaching the end now. Not sure how many chapters will be left. I love this series and it's consistently been really good. The anime was a lot of fun too. I'll be bummed when it ends. Sakamoto Days has been a wild ride lately too! A bit hard to keep up with all the stuff, but at least that keeps it exciting. Anime was pretty solid so far too. Akane-banashi is #2 behind Elusive Samurai for my favourite on-going series. The time skip that happened felt a bit weird at the time but it worked in hindsight. The thing with Shiguma was a bummer. I am hoping so badly that Akane wins the event she's in right now. Kagurabachi is another one I'm quite high on. Great newer series with lots of action. Choujin X is almost done... I think? Lots of twists and turns, and it gets really confusing at times, but overall I still enjoy it. Dandadan is getting to a point for me similar to Jujutsu Kaisen during the Culling Game arc where I'm sort of just ready for it to end. Which is a bit of a bummer because it had been so good for so long. I still like a lot of the characters, but the current arc isn't as good as previous story arcs. Speaking of JJK, the new spin-off Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is probably going to be bad. I wasn't thrilled by the first two chapters. I guess I'll stick with it a while anyways. I am also frequently confused by what happens each week in Chainsaw Man It's not bad but it's not great either. I might have had enough. I'm enjoying a couple of newer sports series: Harukaze Mound (baseball) and Ekiden Bros (running). Harukaze Mound especially. I love an underdog. I hope it sticks around a while. I'm not sure about Ekiden Bros' longevity. Last week's new title, Someone Hertz, had a strong start and I think I'm going to really enjoy following it. I also got into some longer monthly titles over the winter. I read through Twin Star Exorcists shortly after it finished. Kinda weird but at times very good and it held my attention at least. Then I got caught up on Seraph of the End a few months ago. It is chugging closer to the finish, but since it's a monthly, that is probably still a few months away. I remember trying the first season of the anime literally 10 years ago. This series has been going forever It gets confusing and dumb but somehow I like the manga anyways.

Nice Kagurabachi gets really good! I have held back on trying any of the new series that debuted in Jump over the last few weeks. Don’t want to make my weekly reading listtoo long. But JJK and Shojo Null finished recently so I guess I have some openings. JJBA Stone Ocean only has about it a dozen chapters until it ends too. Dandadan will definitely be next in my list. Then maybe Hakutaku next. Your description of it sounds good.
