    2024 Baseball Season

Yeah that's nuts. They won't be able to build a complete team through free agency though, no matter how much they spend. Player development has to go hand-in-hand with the FA signings. The M's traded for Kolten Wong. Apparently the Phils are going hard after Trea Turner.

Pretty much a perfect weekend for the Jays with a sweep of Boston. I think all they need is one more win, or an M's loss, to clinch home field advantage in the WC Series. The Red Sox got absolutely destroyed by their AL East rivals this summer. The just barely had a winning record vs. Baltimore (10-9) but it wasn't even close for Boston in the season series vs. Toronto, Tampa, and NYY. You should look up their season splits. It's pretty hilarious.

Ortiz is in, Bonds (and Clemens) are out. I don’t get it. I would argue that Ortiz was not as good of a hitter as Bonds was, and Ortiz didn’t really have any other skills while Bonds was a very good base runner and defender on top of being an incredible hitter.

Yeah, I don't get why the M's love trading their closers so much I guess the Rangers don't have much choice but to use Scherzer if it comes down to Game 7... But I don't think they'll feel super good about it. He'll probably have a pretty short leash. His fastball was alright in his first start back, but the slider wasn't working. Maybe he can make some mechanical changes before the next start to be more effective. But if the slider isn't working then that makes it too easy for the Astros' hitters.

    2024 Baseball Season

Rays, M's, and Jays are all staying pretty hot. The M's went up on the Jays by a half game yesterday I don't think the O's are going to play themselves back into this race, and the ALC teams probably don't have much of a hope either, unless one of Tampa, Seattle, or Toronto really collapses. If they all keep winning they it's going to come down to wire to determine WC seeding. 7-3, 7-3, and 8-2 in their last 10 games for Tampa, Seattle, and Toronto respectively. The Jays' series this week against Tampa is massive.

Jays getting killed by the Rangers in their home opener. Berrios got pulled in the 1st inning. edit: And they came back to tie it up and then take an 8-7 lead edit #2: They held on to win 10-8!

Yeah the AL East is silly again this year. No teams from the ALC / ALW are all that close to the WC picture right now, though I'm sure that can change if Boston, Toronto, and Tampa beat up on each other all summer. The AL West especially is a bit of a joke right now. You'd think one of those teams could pull ahead a bit and get into the WC, any of Texas, LAA, or Seattle ought to be better. Check this out: The Astros don't even have to do anything to win that division

I feel like the Padres are more of a disappointment. They've got a lot of young talent, at least on paper. Part of me could still see them bouncing back with a strong second half. The Mets should probably be thinking about blowing their team up.

    2024 Baseball Season

Yeah, the AL Central is so bad. Mix them into the AL East and they would all be in last place It's starting to get late pretty early here for both our teams. The Jays or M's could still go on a hot streak and get right back into the WC or division races... but they gotta get hot soon. The Jays also lost a bunch of games to division rivals here in May, which hurts them in the standings. You get fewer chances against division teams now, so you have to make the most of the games you have against them.

I don't know this team very well, the bullpen and names of guys further down the depth chart, but I really didn't like what they did in the 9th last night. Sewald was awful in the game against Toronto on Saturday. I would have put anybody else out there instead of him. Then they brought in Ray, who is prone to allowing homeruns, with two runners on. And he's a starter that hasn't appeared out of the 'pen in a pretty long time. If it had worked then I suppose Servais would have looked like a genius, but to me that was a recipe for disaster. I'm still cheering for Seattle, but, I won't lie -- it felt pretty damn satisfying seeing Alvarez hit that bomb But, uh... go M's!

Thank Jesus they are not trading him. That would have been the worst look ever. Looks like they even picked up Giolito from the ChiSox. I'd love to see Ohtani and Trout go on a deep run in October.

Jays 2.5 games back of the WC race. Very annoying. But at least they won the first game of their series against the Nats last night. Their next 11 games are against the Nats (2), Rockies (3), A's (3) and Royals (3). It's a bit too much to expect them to win every game... but honestly, they really should run the table against these bad teams. That's what a good team would do. After playing the bad teams, they have four games at home vs. Texas. That could be very impactful in the WC race depending on how things go over the next week and a half.

The Reds cleaned house a bit this off-season. Guess they’re tanking this summer. Doesn’t help that most of the lineup seems to be slumping.

Well, things are looking a bit better for the Jays now. Not exactly a slam dunk just yet, but I am more confident now about their WC odds. The lose the tie-breaker with the M's (and Rangers) though so if there's a tie for the 2nd/3rd WC spots then the Jays come up last. Seattle shouldn't try to get cute and play for the 6th seed. Just gotta get in no matter the position.

Feeling pretty good right now about my Rangers/Phils World Series prediction. I don't want to like the Phillies, and I'm not a huge Harper fan... but it's hard to not like that team. They got that dog in them. Some serious scumbag energy too. (Like, the good kind of scumbag )

    2024 Baseball Season

Yeah, the Braves are super duper good. But we've seen lots of Dodgers teams in recent years dominate the regular season and then come up short of a World Series. You never know what might happen in October! I do like the Braves' chances though. The Jays are mostly winning against the bad teams they're playing right now and are only 0.5 games back of a WC spot. I'm gonna be super bummed out if they miss a WC spot... but I'm feeling more hopeful right now, so that's good.

    2024 Baseball Season

Yes, they are! They're on a nice little wining streak, and it's a great time because they're coming up on a softer spot in their schedule. The first two months were stacked with good opponents. More of the bats are coming to life, the win differential is in the positives now. It's great! All of a sudden they have two of the best hitting catchers in the league now that Jansen and Kirk have both kinda caught fire--and a top catching prospect in AAA, Moreno, that's doing quite well for himself down in Buffalo. I'm excited!

And for the final acquisition of the day, the Jays got Whit Merrifield. As recently as a few weeks ago, he missed a series in Toronto due to his vax status Either the Jays’ front office knows something has changed there, or they’re taking a bit of a gamble here They didn’t get those starters from LAA…

    2024 Baseball Season

Yeah, the AL East is looking strong this year. The more balanced schedule is making it less of a bloodbath. They play each other a bit less, and play teams from weaker divisions more. Both Central divisions are quite bad. Especially the AL Central. Also, what's going on with the Cardinals Anyways, I could see four 90-win teams in the AL East when all is said and done. Maybe all AL East teams in the Wild Card games! I expected the Red Sox to be the last place team though, not the Yanks. When are your M's going to get back on track??

Jays took two of three this week at Dodger Stadium. Should have been a sweep but they blew it last night. We will not talk about what took place in Seattle last weekend Toronto host the Angels this coming weekend. Kinda thinking about trying to snag a couple tix to see Ohtani play... but I am so broke right now Probably just watching on TV.

    2024 Baseball Season

The Jays crushed the Red Sox last year... they won the season series 16-3. I think Boston is out for some revenge this year. At this rate, I don't see the Jays making the WC games anyways. And if they do, they'll flame out like they did last year against the M's. It will take a very strong second half push, and maybe a couple of trades, to get me to really believe that this team can actually make some noise in the postseason. It's a bummer, but I'll still be living and dying with every pitch no matter how frustrating they are

    2024 Baseball Season

The Jays turned things up a bit over the weekend. Their AAA call-up (Davis Schneider) had an incredible big league debut. Look at his boxscores from the three games in Boston. Unbelievable stuff from a 28th round draft pick that nobody ever would have put much stock in! I really hope he sticks in the MLB. Super likeable guy. And, yeah, it is looking rather bleak for the Angels. I think they broke Ohtani. What else can he do? I suppose he'll be MVP in the AL this year, which is cool, but he seems like the kind of dude who just wants his team to win games more so than win individual awards.
