Might have to get this one. I remember the reveal looking cool, but with no real gameplay showing I was waiting to see more. Looks like it could be pretty fun.

They never said it wouldn't still be like that so I don't know why so many people in general seem shocked at this. I'm cool with getting Disk 1 now instead of the whole thing 15 years from now. It's not like we don't know what happens. If they think they're going to charge full price for each one though that will be... not good. This would be the company to try it though. Obligatory:

Sony: lol jk? https://blog.playstation.com/2021/04/19/playstation-store-on-ps3-and-ps-vita-will-continue-operations/ Except PSP. That one is still getting axed. Good news overall though. Hopefully this means that the devs who were going to have to cancel projects can course correct and finish up now.

Okay, redoing my original post since when I went to edit the first one it wouldn't let me type anything between the videos so I couldn't edit in spoiler tags. X_x Trailers: Mavel's Spider-man: Miles Morales GTAV/GTA Online moving to PS5 (also something about free game currency every month on PS4 until it releases I guess?) Project Athia (New Square-Enix thing using their fancy engine they never seem to be able to make a game on) Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Stray (Play as cat in world where humans are extinct and robots have replaced them? That's the impression I got anyway) Returnal (looks interesting despite 'Revengence' level of bad naming convention) Destruction Allstars (Destruction Derby meets Overwatch style game? I don't really know how to describe this otherwise) Sackboy: A Big Adventure Oddworld: Soulstorm Kena: Bridge of Spirits (might be neat) Goodbye Volcano High (dinosaur 'furry' drama... game... thing? ) Ghostwire: Tokyo (Been waiting to see gameplay for this. May have potential) Jett: The Far Shore (some kind of space colonization thing? No gameplay so hard to say what it will be) Godfall (Looked interesting when it revealed at the game awards, but seems straight forward and uninteresting in terms of gameplay. Will wait and see on this one) NBA 2K21 Gran Turismo 7 (It definitely appears to be Gran Turismo) Solar Ash (stylized artsy indy game looking thing. might be neat) Demon's Souls (remake I guess? Looks pretty) Resident Evil 8 (this was fun to watch because no idea what it was at first reminded me of when they revealed the 'Biohazard' one set in the house with the fucked up family) Deathloop (remember this from a Bethesda E3 thing. Actually looks like it has potential though also potentially frustrating) Little Devil Inside (might be cool. Not sure. Artsy looking thing but vague trailer confuses me about what its actually about) Hitman III (Hitman gonna hit) Astro's Playroom (This was bound to happen eventually I guess) Bugsnax (What in the actual fuck did I just watch?) Horizon: Forbidden West Hardware Reveal

The full game has been done for over 20 years you fucking casual.

Playstation Plus games for July are: Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 Horizon Chase Turbo Also, apparently Sony is discontinuing the trophies = rewards point with their Sony Rewards thing in early November. Cashed mine in about a month or so ago and was able to add $60 to my Playstation account so free game for me. XD

That was actually kind of cool. That fan and heatsink are fucking enormous. XD It looks like it should be a fuck ton easier to clean out if it gets really dusty, at least at the surface level which is nice. The PS4 was a bit annoying to do that with (the PS4 Pro was pretty straight forward though so I guess they're learning?)

Looks like EA Access is finally coming to PS4.

Okay, so this controller is pretty fucking nice I have to say. I am a fan. Also, apparently Bugsnax isn't as bad as it looks. My wife wanted to try out the controller but didn't want to play Spider-man so she tried that instead and actually enjoyed herself. Still not sure I want to play it. XD

The only thing I can think of as a reason for the bulkier design is because of all the haptic response vibration shit they're supposed to be doing with it. Which hoenstly, as interesting as that sounds, I don't know that I care enough for them to alter the feel of the controller THAT much for it. Hopefully you can just synch a PS4 controller to the thing as an alternative if it feels too weird.

Managed to get one this time. Was weird as hell though. Could only select the normal console (digital only button was greyed out), and when I went to check out, it wouldn't let me pick my normal Best Buy store for pick up and wouldn't let me even try to select just shipping it to me. Had to pick a store that's 90 min. away in another state to get it to go through. REALLY hope there's not a snow storm around when it comes out. XD
-
I'm honestly surprised they got that for it and not just the original version. The PS5 version doesn't even come out until February. I was planning on buying it again too, so I guess I lucked out. XD

IT'S ABOUT GOD DAMN TIME. https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/02/sony-ps4-cross-play-open-developers/

I know. That's why I said "practically behind their backs". This has technically been in the works for a while as apparently part of their renegotiated licensing agreement included MLB's ability to take the game to whatever platform they wanted, but the fact that it was dropped out of nowhere less than 3 weeks from the games release was amusing to watch on twitter. Especially since the game will be a day 1 drop on Game Pass vs. Playstation owners having to pay $70 for it (because of course it's one of the games upped the price on). The series has been a Sony exclusive for like 2 decades, and has been the sole MLB game series available for like 7 years. Sony can't be happy with the situation.

One thing I learned that's pretty fucked up about this online store closure thing just recently: There were a number of developers still making stuff for the Vita that were given no notice of this. They learned about it via the rumor from last week and now have to decide whether to cancel projects or haul ass to get their game out before the store goes down on that platform in August, which is extra fucked up since it seems like Vita caters more to smaller devs at this point. Sony really dropped the fucking ball on this.

Sony playing that FOMO game. Probably more likely that the instant and very verbal sentiment from a lot of people was "lol okay. Gonna pirate a bunch of this shit since you refuse to sell it to us." and they decided they like money after all. They're really screwing themselves this generation. Kind of wonder how things will play out in the long run because xbox has been on a roll recently and Sony seems to be trying to rest on laurels they may or may not actually have. Also, MLB: The Show '21 being put onto Game Pass day 1 practically behind their backs is an absolute alpha dick move. XD

It's official. They clarified that you can in fact still download previously purchased games and content and any ps+ games you had (as long as you retain the service).

Just saw that the Spider-man thing isn't actually a full game. It's a standalone expansion thing like Sony likes to do with their first party devs these days. Not that I have any particular problem with that, but it feels like it takes away from it a bit. At least it'll only be like $30 at that point probably. Also, missed a trailer when I put up the other ones. This is one of the ones I found interesting too (though need to wait for actual game play before I know if I'll even want to play it I guess). I never had much issue with battery life in mine initially. However, they did seem to start losing charge life a lot faster than others. All my PS3 controllers are still fine, but I've legitimately had to buy replacement batteries for 2 PS4 controllers at this point and switch them out which would be fine except you can only find cheap 3rd party replacements that don't work worth shit.

Was playing Spider-man and ran across a side quest that literally amounted to finding this. I can only imagine the triggering that's going to happen considering how some people reacted to Kamala in Avengers.

Yeah, the HDMI cable it came with was short as hell for what I needed. Had to completely rearrange like half of my entertainment center to put it in a spot I could actually get it attached to the TV. As such my PS4 and PS5 are on opposite sides now and the power cables on both are short enough that my surge protector is basically hovering like half an inch off the ground because of them. My next day off I'm going to have to lower the shelves a bit to take some tension off of the damn things. I honestly don't mind the way it looks. I have mine on its side and the only thing that really bothers me about it is the placement of the disk drive. Feels weird that it's towards the bottom of the system instead of the top (or just in the middle), and the design of the shell means there's a bit of a lip above the slot so when you eject a disk it's a little awkward taking it out. As a side note, if you got the remaster of the original Spider-man game, might want to take a pass on it for a while. It's apparently been nearly bricking systems. Seen a few reports of it now. Supposedly it only happens when you turn the system off without closing the game, but I'm not taking any chances. XD

Found a feature that is kind of a space hog if you aren't aware of it and is on by default. Whenever you pop a trophy in a game, it takes a screenshot just like on the PS4, but on the PS5 it ALSO takes a 14 sec. video of the time leading up to the trophy being awarded. This doesn't seem like much, but media can only be saved to the SSD even if you have an external drive hooked up, and considering that space is a premium commodity, I would recommend turning it off. It adds up fast. JUST from Spider-man trophies I've got so far, it had already eaten up almost 2gigs of space. It's a neat idea, but poorly implemented I think as you can't relegate them to an external drive, and the only customization to it is the length of the video. Wouldn't be so bad if you could designate trophy rarity for it or something at least.
-
Yeah, some of that was obvious or things the PS3 and/or 4 did as well, but some of it was news to me and good to know. The manual disk eject thing especially is cool to have just in case. I remember when my original PS3 died and it still had a disk in. I basically had to completely dismantle the thing to get it back. X_x

Rumor is they're going to be shutting down the stores for the PSP, Vita and PS3 in the near future.

I at least like it better than the dev kit thing that was floating around, and we knew what it would be called instead of being disappointed by the code name overshadowing what the console is actually named like Microsoft likes to do. Would definitely prefer it and the controller all black but it could certainly be worse. Supposedly the price listing that popped up on Amazon UK was a "dummy listing". At the very least I'm hoping it was a ploy to get a large price point circulating so it sounds a lot better when they reveal it's actually closer to a $500 price range.
