Stop exposing themselves via my brother and then exposing the rest of the family for fucks sake My brother and his wife both had it and had very mild cases (they caught it/spread it among my SILs family during a giant family beach trip.) and seem to think this means they're completely immune and therefore don't have to be cautious. For their sake and the sake of those around them I hope they're immune but there's no proof of that and no proof that my nephews also have immunity and it's just so fuckingaedrf;gklaqrf;glkawefda;lfkjda i'm so tired

My parents have their vaccines scheduled! They'll receive their first shots when we get our second round. I'll be able to relax just a bit more now, since they're still not bothering using precautions with my brother and his family (and bro & co certainly aren't taking precautions) Just a bit though, they'll probably act like total fuckwits after they get the first round so I'll have to clench back up but i'll take a lil respite where I can get it for now

Way back in whenever talk was starting to heat up about this potentially being a big problem Lee told his work bye, I work from home now and that was that. We've been pretty strict on isolation unless we have to get groceries (delivery and pickups had no slots for a while so we just masked up and sanitized after outings.) We're both introverted homebodies so while things didn't change much it's still really getting to us. Even we want out sometimes. The most infuriating thing is my family. They've been having family get togethers (it's ok because it's family!) and done dumb shit like gone to the beach in groups and sent me texts the whole time bitching that there were teenagers on the beach without masks like ??????????? THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE DOING TOO, DIPSHIT I've been getting irate and scolding them for it but after Father's Day when Dad called and I could hear the loud everyone-cozy-in-the-kitchen party in the background I Got Mad. There was an article about a family that had spread COVID among themselves after a few of them held a party and then visited other relatives. I think it was 18 members of one family tested positive or something dumb. I sent it to my dad and was like THIS IS WHY I'M MAD, STAY HOME. and 3 days later he announces to me that all family gatherings in the near future are postponed. Dumbasses. He and Mom have tightened up their isolation too so now I get texts from him with gems like "Sitting home all day is a bunch of bull" which is basically the equivalent of my dad saying a big fat swear word. He also tells me every day to stay home and be safe and if I didn't know him as well as I do I'd think he was being sarcastic because I yelled at him >> but yes, Dad, the answer is the same as it's been "We've never stopped isolating and aren't about to stop" Shit sucks. Texas has just laid a big fat dookie as far as reacting to this so when we're all dead please make sure to come feed my cats.

ugh. Fun times. I had to take one of the cats to the vet today and they had been super strict for a year about covid stuff, you could only pull up and let them come get your pet, talk to you about it all over the phone, etc. They didn't open their lobby up until a few months ago when they were all vaccinated. I wore my mask in there today because there's just too much spiking happening, and I was the only one in the building with one. I don't think they're being flippant or anything, but I do wonder if/when they'll go back to tightening up on masking and distancing. Thanks to our shithead state government they might have trouble going back to stricter policies, although if anyone gives one of the best vet teams I've ever seen in my life any shit i'll go brawl in the parking lot, fuck it

Definitely look into whether there's city lists or grocery stores or pharmacies or anything like that that you can throw your name in on. My MIL was first priority but ended up getting hers via a local Brookshires rather than her workplace because she heard a rumor they had it and when she called they were like yeah, come on in. Obvs mileage may vary on scenarios like that, but better to put feelers out than not

Officially got shot #2! I'll share side effects as they come if anyone wants so that y'all know what to expect but I think by now there's enough data for people to know what to expect. It's been about an hour since we got 'em and I don't quiiiiiiiiite feel run down but like... teetering on it? Keep in mind this is how I generally feel after flu shots too so it's pretty normal. We're gonna go out for steak 2 weeks from now once these set in. Still gonna maintain masks and distancing and all that but we can unclench juuuust a bit. Gonna tip real well too.

That's one reason I was curious about the specifics on surgery! I have PCOS and other issues that can wind up with me needing a similar surgery at any point and it's pretty fucking scary. I'm really glad she was able to have it taken care of and is on the mend/the way home! Offer still stands on me sending a game or something!

We got ours ridiculously early only because I put our names on the list like... minutes after our city put the sign ups page live. I really thought that would just mean we'd get in the front of the line during a later phase but apparently they had doses to use and not enough people signing up so I guess they were just like fuck it, we'll pull from other phases. I still feel guilty about it, but they had doses they needed to use and we were eligible so we took it.

you might kinda fudge the truth to her about the second one then, it can be rough. Lee's mom felt pretty crappy after shot 2. She bounced back pretty quick but she said it's definitely kinda harsh. She's apparently downplaying the after effects of it to her parents though because they're already anxious about it. Maybe if we put the vaccine in a piece of cheese we can slip it to people like they're pets! "No that's not a needle in the cheese what are you talking about *jab*"

A teacher friend of ours had another teacher friend pass away from COVID this week. She got it when schools opened back up. A longtime family friend from our church passed away today after being in the hospital for months due to COVID. She'd finally seemed to round a corner on the virus and then had a devastating infection crop up as a complication and they made the decision to take her off life support. There is a picture of her husband decked out in PPE holding her hand and stroking her face (she's cropped out of the shot thankfully but you can tell what he's doing) as they were waiting for her to pass on. Her daughters talked about how she went peacefully, surrounded by family, so I guess in a way they were lucky because they got to stay with her but at the same time... dude. Everything's so fucked up. I'm so fucking sick of all this. "Well we can't stop living just because of some virus" obviously we can, Karen, so shut the hell up.
