  1. yeah, it's really easy to tip one way or the other on the precaution spectrum. For a while my mom would be like "well are y'all completely disinfecting everything after you go get groceries" and then tell me about how they went to Home Depot and it was packed and they saw so many people they knew and stopped to chat! then turn around and try and lecture me on keeping safe. I have no idea what they're actually doing precaution wise. It sounds like you're being level headed and diligent about it and really that's the ideal but everyone has lost their fucking minds
  2. I bought stuff to put together lil treat bags. We never get more than a dozen trick or treaters so I'll have a dozen goodie bags (crayons, colouring pages I drew myself, candy, stickers) and if we wind up getting more for some reason then i still have enough to throw together some bags with just candy and maybe stickers. I'm putting the bags out a few at a time on the porch and will sit by the screen door to greet kids if they come but maintain distance
  3. That is heartbreaking and infuriating. So many people have and will needlessly suffer because of this shit. I haven't shared here yet because it was being kept extremely quiet but we had ANOTHER friend in the hospital with covid until very recently.... and she's heavily pregnant with twins. Not vaccinated. Things looked very grim for a while but it seems like her and the babies have made it out and quite frankly she's the luckiest bitch in the universe. Christ. Here's today's "have I said how tired I am yet" joke-but-not-really
  4. Apparently just today they put out a notice saying 65+ were being added in to 1b so who in the absolute fuck knows. Alabama is a shitshow.
  5. SURGERY???? man. SWIFT RECOVERY WISHES i don't even know what to do but scream in the void i'm glad it went well
  6. It just continues to break my mind seeing these numbers over and over and have places open and trying to pretend nothing is going on. I feel like that article leaves out the part where this metaphorical plane wreck is gonna crash into the still smoldering remains of another wreck. Oof.
  7. Yeah, I can't really blame anyone for seeking information but at the same time oof for the workers. I seriously cannot believe how coordinated and informative our city has been, we lucked the fuck out. My parents have signed up to be on a list but have no idea when they'll be able to get one, and that seems to be the way it is for a lot of people who qualify for current rounds...just no info. What a mess.
  8. been feeling increasingly shitty past couple of days and realized it was just over 2 weeks since i'd had a medical appointment where an endlessly coughing woman assured me she had allergies and checked my temp and it was climbing so i imploded and we went and got me a rapid test. It was negative though, so I just have absolute dogshit timing with seasonal crud it seems. I think I aged like 15 years in the time it took us to find a clinic and get it done. I'm so tired of this but I'm so thankful it was negative.
  9. Ugh, not the answer I was hoping for re: vaccines. I'm glad to hear your dad is doing ok though! How's your mom?
  10. USA! USA! USA! YEAAAAAAAAAH NO. 1 BABY WE'RE SO AWESOME THAT PEOPLE COPY OUR DEADLY MISTAKES YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
  11. yeah we've had a couple times over the past year that we've had vague "uh oh is this it" and lee had to get tested at one point because of his dumbass cousin but this is the only time where the timing and symptoms have really lined up to where it was panic mode. I'm surprised the whole ass planet hasn't gone grey haired from stress
  12. oof, that sucks. Like that there doesn't seem to be infection though, that's a relief.
  13. Well, let me expand--- they had it a month or two ago, and as far as I've seen recently, it's very possible to get it again and be asymptomatic. They quarantined until they realized they weren't gonna have to go to the hospital then resumed normal life from what I understand. Just the other day got a video of them at their giant ass mega church and my brother was the only one visible in the video, rest of the crowd included, wearing a mask and even then he had it loose around his neck. They recently went to Disney World. Do I need to expand more? They're selfish arrogant idiots and my parents are high risk.
  14. The "obvious" but not easy route is hard lockdown with universal pay and support for all from the government but I mean there's fuck all chance of that happening in the way that would be needed on the scale it's needed on. Both nuances and absolutes are needed in how we address this thing and people just aren't capable of it. I'm so over this that I just said "fuck it, do whatever" to my mom in an email I censored the word fuck but even a censored version is enough to really piss her off so maybe i'll regret it but who the fuck cares, can't stop livin' amirite i'm not doing well today lmao
  15. That's reasonable but after reading accounts from staff about the numbers of pregnant women with devastating effects and outcomes in hospitals I think it's more reasonable to trust the vaccine. The data that supports them getting it is there.
  16. My dad called literally minutes after we saw the email and once I excitedly told him the news his attitude suddenly shifted from what it's been ("welllllllll I just wanna wait and see I don't want to be in the first rounds just to seeeeeeee" type shit) to "oh wow that's great I sure wish I was getting mine that soon" so maybe this will make him seek his way to getting his. He talked about how Alabama as a state is incompetent and is ranked dead last in getting the vaccine distributed, and all that is true but he absolutely qualifies and if he actually starts making inquiries he'll get on track to get his. MIL got her second dose last week, grandparents in law will get their 2nd one soon, so I'm basically same boat... a LITTLE bit of relaxation. Just a lil. I ain't gonna unclench until 2nd shots are done and the take hold period has passed, but it's a damn nice sight to glimpse a lil bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
  17. We never have much of a turnout, which has been a disappointment ever since we moved here because I had been so sure that living in an actual house in a neighborhood instead of an apartment meant I would get lots of trick or treaters so my hopes are never high, but this still blows. It was PERFECT weather here and everything T_T We had one set of kids who came up to get treat bags because we went on and put some out while it was still light out and then we had a set in costumes come up later and that's it. Still gonna leave some out and have our lights on for another hour or so just in case because we're gonna be up so might as well. We've gotten some later visitors in the past so maybe someone on their way back from one of the drive through events or something will stop update--we've had a couple more groups so that officially puts us as more total kids visiting than the other couple of years we've lived here!
  18. I mean, I started to object to her once years ago when she was talking about how Red Lobster was way too fancy but then I remembered this lady's diet at the time was like 65% frozen burritos. She definitely doesn't fit the stereotype of the fantastic cook grandmother but we love her all the same
  19. Well, fuck. My condolences. I ain't got much else to add other than fuck, that sucks.
