POSSUM WATCH 2019: Daisy was handed off to her new family today! One of her new human siblings wanted to hold her on the way home but when told she was already stressed and to let her hide in her carrier and bond with her at home he happily accepted that and said he was looking forward to it, so I think it's absolutely safe to say she's in a great household. (web i hate all these autosmilies, plz die) NOW I GET TO CRY LIKE A BITCH WHILE I FINISH CLEANING OUT HER CAGE BECAUSE AUUUUUUUGH MY BABY

POSSUMWATCH 2019: Daisy is still with us but her forever home is back from vacation and we're talking out details on the handoff. Turns out she works at a farm school and Daisy will be an ambassador animal there, AND she will have another NR friend there! Hopefully they get along, it's been awhile since she's been around other possums but she's made peace with the cats pretty easily when she roams around the house so here's hoping

POSSUMWATCH 2019: Daisy has a home lined up. She stays with us a few more weeks then is off to the good life! After that I should be way less frazzled and be around more lol In other more personal news, I finally got my name changed on my license after getting married. Only took about 8 years. I wish I could have recorded the DMV worker's reaction because she was very confused.

POSSUM WATCH 2019 Daisy is still going, she's pushing 200g and we just got a new cage that i've wanted to get for a while. Still haven't found her a new forever home, so we're worried we might end up being permanent possum parents.... not that that would be the worst thing in the world, but with 5 cats and her needing special care it's ideal for everyone if another rehabber can take her and spoil her and give her a life as an education animal! If not... guess I have a new side gig.

things have been busy lately and i have the attention span of a gnat but Daisy is finally growing! She's still pretty fragile, but has tons of energy and finally that scale is showing bigger numbers. also right now our a/c is borked because frozen bits so i'm probably gonna die of heat bye

Been a while since POSSUMWATCH Daisy, my current little tiny one I got on Mother's Day is really starting to perk up and become active! Lots of love and care has gone in to her so far.... She is blind in one eye, and the other ain't that great. Her growth is stunted too, but tonight we had a HUGE breakthrough where she lapped some formula on her own! huge huge HUGE deal. So now I have to keep working with her to get her fully eating on her own.... and then we figure out who's gonna take her to be her forever home. If we can't find one, then we will keep her ourselves... but I'd really rather her go to someone with more resources who would be active with her as an ambassador animal! Still a long long way to go to get to that point. She's a good poss.

I have my suspicions that Daisy (the Mother's Day baby poss) is a dwarf like Fili was... so this is an interesting journey. She doesn't seem food repulsed the way Fili was but she's still a little too weak to try eating on her own so we'll see. I'm seeing lots of dwarf babies in my FB groups too, moreso than last year... might be year of the dwarf possies

welp my mentor sent her husband and one of her sons to fetch a cage from me and these fuckers stroll in to my house with a cardboard box tied up with a bow that has "Happy Mothers Day" written on it baby possum inside I can't even be mad lmao

The others were officially moved to the porch cage the other day and they LOVE it! They're not impressed with the weather but they gotta learn how to deal with that lol Gettin' me one of them spine injections on Friday, yeehaw

Thanks again, y'all. If a dwarf opossum ever comes my way again, I'm gonna be better prepared to help them. Fili's legacy! meanwhile, the other 5 are exploding in size and just about ready to move outside and they're so fucking cute y'all god I love opossums

Fili has taken a turn for the worse, suddenly has swelling on part of her face. I hope she makes it long enough to get to my mentor since she has way more supplies and experience than I do so she can try some last ditch efforts, but in reality this lil baby was always a "failure to thrive" and I've been keeping her going. She's loved her tiny life though, so while I really hope it doesn't end now, I can know she was happy. Wildlife rehab is really hard sometimes. To not be a total sadsack--- went to a bunch of thrift stores today and got some stuff for the blog I help with and that was a lot of fun! sadsack update: Fili passed away tonight.

POSSUMWATCH 2019: Today Lee changed Steel's name to Filigree, which suits her much better. So now she's Fili for short. On Sunday I'm gonna hand her off to my mentor so that she can try and get her to eat and then we'll go from there as to what her future will be. Lee and I are extremely attached, so it's gonna be sad to not be the ones to raise her anymore, but that's part of rehab! You love them and then you let them go one way or another. The others are growing rapidly, and are smelly adorable little monsters who think they should be provided with food any time I move near them. They've had solids introduced so I get to smell their rank poo, my life is nothing but glamour. Soon they'll be big enough to move to the big cage on the porch!

Vet says it's just a little fatty mass, so yay! Still gotta keep a regular check on it to make sure it doesn't morph but god damnit am I ever relieved.
