Self isolation, social distancing, sheltering in place, whatever else you call it
dr. b replied to dr. b's topic in General Insanity
My wife, kids, and I all came down with cold- and flu-like symptoms over the weekend So I booked us an appointment at the COVID assessment centre at the local hospital and we got tested this morning. Apparently it can take anywhere from 24 hours to 6 days to get results - and public health will only call us if it was positive - so I'm going to spend the rest of the week checking for our results online It is going to be a long and boring and frustrating week. -
But still Rays ALCS: Rays vs. Astros NLCS: Dodgers vs. Braves Who ya got going through to the World Series? I think the Rays were clearly better than the Astros in the regular season, but the Astros do still have quite a bit of talent on their roster. I'm leaning Rays here. On the NL side, while the Braves are very good with a lot of talent in their own right, the Dodgers are just too good. Their run differential is nuts. I think they had the second fewest runs against in all of the MLB, and the most runs scored - though the Braves scored a ton of runs too. So it could be a bit of a bloodbath if the Dodger's pitching lets them down. I want to see a Rays vs. Dodgers World Series. Two very good teams, one running one of the lowest payrolls in the whole league up against one of the biggest spenders in the league. Let's do it.

This is turning into a bit of a series. Even if it ends Sunday night, good on the Heat for taking a couple games from the Lakers. I hope they can win another though
-
The Raps avoided an upset on ring night I figured they'd look a bit rough in the first half and then figure it out in the second half and go on to win - didn't think it would be that tight and go to OT though. It's a shame we didn't get to see Zion (and won't for a while).

Turns out the Dodgers are pretty good RIP Dads Really need the Rays to knock the Yankees out today. Plz Rays

BARVES strike first! 3-0 now in the 3rd, still no outs - tough start for Sixto Sanchez. --- 5-0 now in the 5th. Not looking good for the fish.

And here I am thinking these are best-of-7 series Guess I wasn't paying very close attention. Kershaw wasn't great night, but good enough at least. Jansen tried to blow it in the 9th though I doubt we'll see either team that's down 0-2 come back for a 3-2 win. Perhaps there is still some hope Oakland and NYY being down 1-2, but those odds probably aren't great either. Dodgers/Braves should be a good NLCS if that's how it ends up. I don't really like any combination of teams on the AL side.

Kershaw may be a different story this postseason. As usual, he was very good in the regular season - but he only had to pitch around 60 innings, not the usual workload, so I think he's still got a lot left in the tank for the postseason run. He pitched brilliantly in the WC game against Milwaukee. 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 13 K, 93 pitches. I'm excited to see what he does tonight. He'll be facing a tougher lineup than Milwaukee's, so I don't expect another 8 inning gem, but it would be great to see a pitching duel. (Only problem is the Dads are a bit short on pitchers... kinda hard to have a one-man duel )

If it turns out to be another Astros / Dodgers World Series then there are going to be some pretty juicy stories. Are they still cheating? Etc. Not really what I want to see though.

Yankees and Astros took early 1-0 leads yesterday You're expecting the Padres to beat LA? I'm hoping for it, but I don't know that I would expect it to happen. Interesting how the NLDS/ALDS series all worked out to be divisional match-ups. They should all know each other well by now. It will be interesting to see if the teams on the losing end of the season series can make adjustments and find a way to win the DS. Ex. Oakland went 7-3 vs. Houston during the season, but now Houston is up 1-0. Have they figured something out, or is it just one game? We'll find out over the course of the week!

I don't really find one league to be better or more exciting than the other. On both sides, the higher seed advanced in 3 out of 4 series. The lack of upsets kinda killed the excitement, because that's what that first round with the short series was all about

That was a pretty great win for the Heat last night. I still expect the Lakers to come back and win it quick in 5 games... but now there's a glimmer of hope that it could be a longer, more competitive series.

Project DIVA Mega Mix Controls are a bit different from the Vita and 3DS Project Diva games I'm accustomed to playing, so it's going to take some getting used to. I'm finding the hard difficulty a bit harder than I ever did on the Vita games, so extreme difficulty is going to be tough. Some songs even have an extra extreme difficulty - that's probably going to be too much for me

Unless Bam and Dragic can come back full strength for the next game, it's looking like the Lakers sweep the Finals

Hooray for the Dads Updated bracket:

This Cards/Dads game has been pretty great so far. SD just took a 1-0 lead

So glad to see the Cubs gone Rays vs. Marlins would stink, but 100% for sure the worst, most cliche World Series matchup would be Yankees vs. Cards. If the Cards beat the Dads tonight then it's still on the table Please don't do that to me, baseball Gods. I know it's 2020 and everything is terrible, but not that

RIP Brewers, RIP White Sox I'm not a big A's fan. Similar to the Rays, you kinda have to marvel at how they excel with a low budget mix of no-name guys, but at the same time I don't really like it. It's all smoke and mirrors. When guys leave those teams they usually turn back into pumpkins. The White Sox would have been way more fun to watch in the next round. There isn't a likeable team left in the AL. If the Dads lose to St. Louis today then truly all hope is lost. I think I'm hoping for the Dodgers to win this World Series. That team really ought to win one before this group of amazing players gets too old or gets broken up. edit: Also I am disappointed that they haven't scheduled a double-header for the Cubs/Marlins today. Just finish the WCS round today with two 7-inning games. They did it all season long. Everything is 2020 is different, why not let it spill into the postseason? The second game won't even be needed if Miami win the first one.

RIP Reds Didn't even score a run.

The Marlins have won the World Series twice but have never won their division. They finished 2nd in the NLE this year, so I guess that cements it. Congrats Miami on your third World Series victory! Have fun trading away all your players immediately afterwards Both of the teams in Florida are so poorly run and yet the Marlins have two WS under their belt even though it seems like they try to lose, and the Rays have had a lot of success lately (minus a WS) despite the fact that they won't pay anybody. It's just a constant churn. I can't stand these teams.

Rough day on the field for Bo Even without the errors though, Ryu was looking pretty hitable today. After that second inning they didn't even need to play the rest of the game...

Baseball playoff series are so random.

RIP Twins Boooooo Astros The Rays jumped all over Ryu and the Jays are basically dead
