Self isolation, social distancing, sheltering in place, whatever else you call it
dr. b replied to dr. b's topic in General Insanity
I'm more often worried that an old lady will get mad at me if I don't give enough space, but I guess it depends on each person. Some olds folks are hyper-aware of how they are more at risk and are superduper cautious, while others seem to be completely unconcerned about it. For a while our grocery store was doing special seniors shopping hours from 7am-8am everyday and you could only go in the store if you were a million years old, so I hope all the "at risk and really worried about it" old folks shop during that time. -

I will admit that I have once or twice been tempted to ask somebody, "These arrows are confusing eh?" but so far I have kept quiet. I do find it a bit astonishing how so many people seem to still be oblivious to them -

Does your store also do the one-way traffic thing in the aisles to control the flow of how the customers move? There are arrows up and down all of the floors of every supermarket here, have been for months, and still most people don't notice them. Doesn't really bother me much, but I have seen a couple people get "arrow-rage" and chew somebody out for walking the wrong way down an aisle -
I got a bit curious about PS5 for a minute but the price tag reminded me why I'm not at all interested (Not that I'd be able to find one anywhere anyways...) But then I had a look at the games available e.g. at Best Buy and a couple other places, and the list is pretty unimpressive. I think there are only 7 titles in stock at my local Best Buy. Are there better games available via the PS Store? What are you guys even playing on your PS5's ?

Who's still keeping up with Digimon Adventure? Episode 24: I thought maybe this would be a 25/26 episode thing just for the spring/summer seasons and then come back next spring, but now it's looking more like they'll just keep on trucking thru the fall and winter. According to the Toei website, the series format is "66 eps x 23 min" so we're not even halfway done yet.

Everything sucks right now But it especially sucks for the people working retail. It's good that they'll be limiting occupancy limits in your state, Slix, but I guess the trade-off there is that many people really don't like having to wait in lines to get in stores, so you'll probably have to deal with more cranky customers than usual I'm lucky that I can work from home when needed. Can't drive to the office anyways while I'm without a vehicle. If I'm lucky we might get that shit sorted out with the insurance company this week... -
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. 69.99 CAD for a nifty looking little handheld with SMB, SMB 2, and a Game & Watch game. I don't think it's worth the $$$ but I can't help buy want to get one

This is more or less the approach that the province of Ontario seems to be taking right now. They are of course worried about the negative impacts on small- and medium-sized businesses if they do a hard lockdown, but, like... how are they small business owners gonna run their businesses if they die from COVID? I guess it's a lose-lose situation for governments no matter what they do, but I'd learn toward stricter lockdown measures. Things are starting to go downhill here and by December I think it could be really bad -

I wonder if we'll ever get another season of Hajime no Ippo... -

We were informed yesterday that a toddler from my daughter's childcare centre recently tested positive for COVID-19 Apparently all toddlers and staff that were present at the centre last Friday are considered at risk, so we have to keep her at home for 14 days and self-monitor for symptoms (fortunately there are none). Also we got into a pretty bad car accident on Sunday morning (fortunately we were all uninjured). I'm not having a good week! -

I remember Shimoneta, that show was a barrel of laughs I'm still cruising along with Cat's Eye, one or two episodes a night. -
Did you guys know that the Platinum Glove Award was a thing? Ten years they've been doing it and I swear I've never heard about it once Basically, all of the Gold Glove winners are eligible for it and it's a fan vote to decide who the #1 defensive players are in the AL and NL. This year's winners were Alex Gordon, Royals LF (WTF ) and Nolan Arenado, Rockies 3B. How the hell does a LF win the award for top defensive player in a league!? LF is basically where you hide your weakest defender who can't play the infield, doesn't have enough range to cover CF, and doesn't have a good enough arm to make throws from RF. Obviously it's because it's a fan vote, but my mind is blown that Gordon has won this award twice (!!) as a LFer...

Turner gets off without punishment Sounds like there was quite a bit of confusion and miscommunication at the time. He made a (IMO) poor decision, but you can't lay all of the blame just on him for it. Also the new Mets owner isn't wasting time, already shaking things up. Apparently Van Wagenen is out as the GM, which I think is a good start. Get a more competent GM in there. BVW can go back to being an agent.

The Tigers named AJ Hinch as their manager last week and reports are out today that the Red Sox are going to bring back Alex Cora to manage again... I wasn't sure how the fallout from the Astros cheating thing would affect these guys long term, but I guess at least some teams have no problems bringing them back. I'm curious to see how it goes for both teams.

I read a free agent contract predictions thing on The Athletic yesterday, and IIRC they predicted a two-year, $16 million deal for Hand. Not sure which team will give him that contract, but I think it's pretty fair in the current environment... but I still think it's stupid of Cleveland not to pick up the $10 million option. He was very good this season and earned that money. Relievers can be so random year-to-year, but even if he turns into a pumpkin next summer... it's only a one-year deal. Seems like a no-brainer to me If you're not up to speed on the Turner thing, I'm pretty sure it went like this: Before game 6 he had an inconclusive COVID-19 test, so they took another sample and let him start in the game. During the game the second test came back positive so he was pulled from the game (in the 7th inning IIRC?) and put into isolation. After the game he was allowed on the field to celebrate and take a photo with the team. At first he was wearing a mask but was still hugging and getting close to teammates and coaches. And then he just stuck around out there continuing to celebrate the victory, eventually losing the mask and seemingly not taking any care to protect people from catching COVID from him. It was all playing out on live TV. Very weird situation.

I've done the play-all-the-levels thing a few times and yeah it gets annoying towards the end. I wouldn't bother at all with World 7 anymore, and I don't think there is any shame in using a P-Wing to fly through certain very annoying/cheap levels. Doesn't really matter how you get to the end credits as long as you get there! This one's on my radar. I don't feel like spending the money right now, but I will grab it eventually. It's actually 25% off right now but I'll wait for a bigger discount.

I didn't hear of much vandalism or other dumb shit around here this Halloween. Hardly anybody was out to begin with. -
When OHL hockey comes back in Feb., bodychecking will not be allowed Who knows, games might be more fast and exciting without checking ... not that I watch fuckin' minor league hockey ... but it's not really going to look like hockey.

Welp, that's it for the City Hunter movies The most recent movie, Shinjuku Private Eyes, was done in 2019. Fantastic animation. I'd definitely recommend it for a little taste of what City Hunter is all about if you've never seen the anime or 90's movies. I think I'm gonna watch Shinjuku Private Eyes again this weekend I found a live action version of Angel Heart on Crunchyroll but not the anime. But! Crunchyroll does have all of the Cat's Eye anime, so next I'm going a little further back in Hojo's catalog to a mid-80's anime about three cute sisters who are art thieves -

I'm not normally sentimental about stuff like this, but man this was a pretty lame Halloween Hardly any kids out there, probably 2/3 houses in our neighborhood weren't giving out candy. We still ended up doing pretty well, and all the people we did meet were really nice... but it was nothing like trick-or-treating used to be -
Netflix 2021 anime lineup Some interesting things in there! I've been looking forward to more B: The Beginning. I'll definitely check the new anime original from Wit Studio, and Spriggan, as well.
