The Panthers and Lightning are #2 and #4 in the league-wide standings Also the Leafs are #3, I'm not used to seeing that. In recent years, #3 in the reverse standings would seem more appropriate... (that's the Sens right now! )

In Canada we're not doing too great, but I think it is mostly due to simply not having enough vaccine to go around yet. Only 1.76% of the population has received two doses of a vaccine (11.91% of the population has received at least one dose). But the percentages are much higher specifically for people in priority groups (health care workers and seniors in group home settings). The rest of us just have to wait our turn. I understand why they're vaccinating the old folks first, because they're more likely to die if they contract the virus... but they're not necessarily the people most likely to come into contact with the virus if we do a better job of protecting long-term care homes, not allowing the virus in, etc. I think they may pivot soon to targeting more essential workers, not just front-line healthcare workers, to stop the spread in workplaces, factories, warehouses, etc. But who knows what the dummies who run the province of Ontario might do next... -
2021 Baseball Season AKA Pandemic Baseball: The Second Wave

Jays won yesterday. Matz looked GREAT in his Blue Jay debut. 6.1 IP, 9 K, only 1 run allowed on 1 BB and 2 H. Toronto beat NYY in their Home Opener and then Texas. You love to see it! Speaking of NYY and Texas: NY to acquire Odor from Texas. Odor has been pretty bad the last couple season, and Texas DFA'd him to start this season despite still being owed quite a bit of $$$. You'd think they would have tried to get a bit more value out of him if they could. I guess they gave up hope on him. If he immediately turns into an All-Star after putting on the pinstripes, then I'm gonna be sick The dude has pretty easy HR power, that's never been in question, but if he figures out how to get on base regularly in NY and can still mash HRs then that's gonna be a problem... -
Finished Succession last night. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first season, but it was OK. It's a shame it was only 6 episodes. It didn't feel like there was enough time there for much to actually happen as this isn't a super fast-paced story. It also didn't seem to me that they made the best use of time in each episode either. Oh well. I'd watch this just for Lily

I didn't realize Funi bought Crunchyroll... Episode #1 was great. It feels good to be watching this show again! I'm not in love with the OP. Nice visuals but not my kinda tune. The ED is very good though, I like the music better and the illustrations that run through the credits are very nice too. That was a lot of info to take in from Kureno re: Akito...

I was thinking of cancelling my Crunchyroll subscription, at least for this season, because for a while now I think Funi has had the better selection of shows. I don't really want to pay for both and only use one. But then I realized Fruits Basket is only in English on Funi. Can't do it. Crunchyroll dodged a bullet today Gonna watch S3E1 later tonight. I'm stoked!

Yay. Was Fruits Basket in the same time slot last year? I didn't remember it being a Monday show, but I'll be happy to watch it every Monday night

I watched the first two episodes of B: The Beginning -- Succession last night. They were good, but at first I was really struggling to remember _anything_ about the first season It's slowly coming back to me enough that I get what's going on now, but during the first episode I was seriously thinking I'd have to re-watch the whole first season Gonna try to polish it off tonight if the Raptors game isn't entertaining. Also, the one about the yakuza dad is supposed to hit Netflix this Thursday. I remember reading about that a while back... maybe in the Fall or Winter thread? It's all a blur these days. Anywho, I'll check it out.

Just took a look at the standings for the first time in weeks (maybe the first time this season for divisions other than the North) ... since when were the Panthers one of the best teams in the league!? I barely recognize any of the names on the roster, though I'm sure that would be the case for many other teams as well at this point. If I sort it from youngest to oldest then I know a few of the names at the bottom of the list, that's it.

Yeah The first two episodes impressed me quite a bit, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it will continue to be good!
-
Episode #2 was pretty good too, except for one thing at the end

Loss yesterday but a win today for a 2-1 series win over NYY I'm surprised that today's starter (rookie TJ Zeuch) lasted 4 scoreless innings. Dude doesn't have swing-and-miss stuff so I figured he'd get shelled pitching to contact against the Yankee hitters. Vlad homered today, which is a great thing to see, and the bullpen was good again. We're off to a nice start here! -
Are the Canucks going to survive the season?

Vivy -Flourite Eye's Song- #1 -- I just watched this out of boredom not knowing what to expect, kinda thought it was just going to be a music anime... turns out it's got a pretty strong sci-fi element to it and I find it very interesting so far! You got AIs, time travel (an AI from 100 years in the future trying to prevent the AIs going to war with humans in the future), some nice work by Wit Studio. And episode #2 is already available too. I'll for sure keep watching.
-
SSSS.Dynazenon #1 -- Solid first episode. It's a slow starter, took probably 15 minutes to get to the good stuff (kaiju and mecha), but they did a good job of introducing the main characters and their situations in life before getting to the action. The studio is Trigger, so the show looks great and has some style. Even if you're not normally a big fan of mecha, I'd say give this a look anyway. I think this is sort of a sequel to SSSS.Gridman insofar as it takes place in the same universe, but it doesn't seem like it's necessary to have watched Gridman before watching this one.

I thought the final course was a little too over-the-top but it was pretty rad anyway. Love the emphasis on how fun skateboarding is I agree that the side-story about the investigation into Adam seemed unnecessary, but it was nice to see...

Horimiya is 100% my anime of the season for the winter, no doubt about it. That was a pretty fantastic final episode. I would have appreciated just a liiiiiittle bit more of the silly stuff, but that's only a minor complaint. The more serious parts were great too. And at least Hori's dad made one final appearance

Mets extend Lindor https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/mets-to-extend-francisco-lindor.html 10 years, $341 million. With deferrals of $5 million / year so they won't actually be done paying him until 2041. That's a pretty big contact! Not the biggest ever, but it's certainly up there. -

Yikes, that sounds rough. Do you know if he tested positive for one of the variants? I keep hearing that the "variants of concern" can make people more sick. Kinda scary. -

They're calling this the third wave. You'd think we would have learned more by now. I guess the plane needs a new pilot! That's no surprise to me though. I don't have a very high opinion of Doug Ford (Premier of Ontario). -

The province of Ontario is getting pretty COVID-y again The seven-day average of new daily cases climbed to 2,316, its highest point since January 26. We apparently also hit a new record for number of people in intensive care. Ontario was doing better late Feb. / early March, but that didn't last very long... now the Premier of Ontario is telling people not to make plans for Easter (I wasn't anyways, so who cares) and that there will be an announcement tomorrow. Probably another lockdown of some sort. Work has been a major headache lately. I know lockdowns are supposed to be bad for business, but I really wouldn't mind if some of my customers had to shutdown for a few weeks, sales numbers be damned... A little tidbit from a CBC News article: Lovely. -
Yeah, hard to imagine they would plan a recap episode into a 13 episode stand-alone anime I am already excited for this special. I should set a reminder for myself or something though, because I'll totally forget about it by the time June rolls around

Opening Day is tomorrow!!! Jays @ Yankees is the first game of the day I've seen a few different publications now predicting the Jays to finish 2nd in the AL East, around 90 wins, and being a Wild Card team. That is promising to see. Keith Law is predicting a Yankees/Dodgers World Series Also FWIW, Law has your Mets finishing 1st in the NL East, Garlic!
