2021 Baseball Season AKA Pandemic Baseball: The Second Wave
dr. b replied to dr. b's topic in Sports
Yeah that’s wild. 14-4 against the A’s, maybe they’ll make it 15-4 tonight. I think we can count out the A’s from the WC race now. Then the M’s close the season against LAA and they’re 10-6 against them so far this year. Definitely a good chance to play themselves into the WC game. Toronto absolutely has to win tonight and tomorrow vs. NYY or the season is basically over. Seattle seems like they will keep winning games, and I can’t rely on Baltimore to beat Boston again. Boston has a very weak schedule this week. I’ll be shocked if they lose their WC spot, though I have been expecting them to collapse for weeks now… -

Here comes the Mariners!!! -
Those are some cool tracks. Great guitar playing in the second one. I’m working late tonight and listening to Cannonball Adderley. The song title feels appropriate.

Self isolation, social distancing, sheltering in place, whatever else you call it

Oh yeah, Alberta needs external help for sure. I saw in the news a week or so ago that BC already said they cannot help with ICU space, and Alberta's other neighbour (Saskatchewan) is doing no better. They might be medevac'ing patients from Alberta to Ontario. When Ontario was hurting really bad during one of the previous waves, other provinces gave us support... so I guess we have to return the favour now. Meanwhile, over in Quebec, thousands of nurses could be suspended on Oct. 15th for refusing to get vaccinated. Not sure how their healthcare system is going to manage losing that many nurses all at once. Fun times! The situation isn't so bad in Ontario right now... but I can only imagine what things could be like if/when it gets worse again. -

They’re still struggling out in Western Canada. Government still isn’t doing a heck of a lot in response -
Neru -- New character seems cool. Hunter's Guild -- I didn't find this week's chapter particularly interesting, so here's hoping for more excitement next week. Still gotta read chapter #2 of PPPPPP.

They better be. These will be must-win games from both team’s perspectives. It will be disappointing if the Jays come up short this year. They’ve gotten such incredible performances from Ray and Semien. They’re both on one-year deals and will probably have teams lining up to pay them this winter. I’m not sure if the Jays can retain both guys and still afford to sign/extend their younger guys in the coming years when their rookie deals are up. I hope they can at least keep Ray. The Cards are annoying but I have to admit that this win streak has been impressive. -
One of my all-time fav Lips tracks. Play it as loud as possible and just let the song wash over you

I ought to know to wait until after they’re in bed before I try to do anything… Got back into it for a bit after things quieted down in the apartment here. Zipped through most of Act 1. Just the boss quest is left. I’m not going to stay awake long enough to get through The Jail and Catacombs tonight, so that’s a job for tomorrow.

Aw yeah, we cleaned out that Den of Evil Then my annoying children came and ruined my fun

To be fair to yer friend, I think there are plenty of very reasonable, pro-vaccine women out there that are reluctant to take the vaccine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. People want to see more evidence that the vaccine will not somehow negatively impact the babies. There hasn't been enough time to study that yet, I don't think. People are being told it's safe for pregnant women, but I can understand why they might want to scrutinize that more carefully. -

Want us to send you some ivermectin? j/k get better soon dude. Scotch always makes me feel nice when I’m sick. Try that -
?? more of this Episode 12 was very touching. I’m curious to see what direction they take with Aquatope in the second part. Feels like it’s going to start with a time skip.

That must be a bit frustrating. Did they not want to get vaccinated, or they just never got around to getting it..? -

Damnit Rays Realistically, I'm happy if the Jays come out of their trip to The Trop with just one win and no injuries / catastrophes... but I'm still hoping they can win two games. It's harder to do that when you drop the first game though. -

Yeah they got beat 22-4 across Saturday and Sunday You love to see it NYY's run differential is actually quite low after these last 2 games, at only +23. They have 'only' scored 650 runs so far this season. Tampa, Boston, and Toronto are all closing in on 800 runs scored right now. Even the worst teams, like the O's and D-backs, have put up over 600 runs thus far. The Yankee hitters just aren't getting it done... with the players they have, you'd think they'd be doing better. They also have a fairly difficult schedule the rest of the way. The next series is vs. Texas which isn't so hard, but then they hit the road for series in Boston and Toronto, then close the season at home vs. Tampa. The AL East teams can work together here to bury the Yankees and keep them out of the postseason -

It’s a bummer about the M’s and the Dads. I guess they both still have an outside chance, but they’ll need other teams to lose. San Diego has been kinda bad in the second half of the season. Toronto is still in a tight race. Just keep winning please! They still have one series left vs. the Yankees, which could be pivotal. I’m still waiting for the Red Sox to fall apart… felt like it was going to happen weeks ago…
