That was a really cute direct. I'm going to see how much the Switch 3D world costs... I know the Switch one will have some extra stuff, but tbh if buying a pre-owned Wii U copy ends up a huge amount cheaper then we might just do that (it's one of the Wii U games we didn't get around to).

I got a Turquoise one! But I haven't played it much yet, and may not until Pokémon comes out (I got it on pre-order because we could get it at a higher Argos discount for a limited time, which meant I saved £30 on full price). First impressions of the hardware are good - it has a nice feel to it, and the size difference to the original Switch is such that you don't feel the screen size suffers much, but it's more comfortable to hold and definitely that bit more portable. Also, with the OG Switch in handheld mode you do occasionally feel like the joy-cons are at risk of clicking off the main body of the machine without you meaning to, which isn't a disaster but it can be a bit awkward and it's just something you're quietly aware of. With the Lite that isn't an issue. Although the Primary/Secondary Switch setup business is still confusing and a bit of a nightmare (especially re: saves and so on), I was relieved to learn that although you need Wifi to play games downloaded onto your primary Switch from your secondary Switch, it literally just uses it for a second to check the game isn't in use. You don't have to maintain a connection the whole time, which is what I initially thought they meant (which would obviously be pointless and awful). So it seems like you can literally just set up a wifi hotspot on your phone for a minute, let the Lite connect to it then disconnect and keep playing.

Yeah, I know... but I hold on to consoles for a long time and only get ones where I know I'll get a lot of use out of it (i.e. Nintendo basically, haha) so don't mind a slightly higher initial outlay for something that's cute or cool-looking. My DS Lite and 3DS were both shades of pink, but I've never had a themed one. It'd have to be nice enough to spend the extra, I guess, so we'll wait and see. The other thing is that I know that either way I'd want a newer Switch model, rather than the old ones they'll be selling off - replacement joycons/controllers are expensive. I'm hoping the Switch Lite will have the recently improved build quality too, but if not then all the more reason to trade it in after 6 months. Oh yeah, Nintendo Direct today/tonight! Not sure we'll get to watch it as we need to go to bed early... plus I'm never sure how many details I want to know about the stuff I'm hyped for, and it seems like this'll be that sort of direct.

So at the weekend I just preordered a Switch Lite... :x Reason: when Pokemon comes out I know Woofie and I both going to get a copy (1 sword, 1 shield, not sure which yet)... so it really is probably the time to get another Switch of some kind. I'd rather have a full-size Switch in the long run - among other things, I'm definitely going to want to play ACNH on my own Switch, both handheld and on the TV.... but I want to wait and see if there's going to be an Animal Crossing themed full-sized Switch, or joycons at least (which I'm pessimistic about - it seems more likely to be a themed Switch Lite). So in the meantime, I'll get a Lite and just take good care of it so I can trade it in and get a full-sized and/or themed Switch in six months or so. It really is annoying that Nintendo don't have a better setup in place for households that have a full-size Switch and a Switch Lite, though. If I want to play a game both handheld on my Lite and on my TV using the main Switch, it's going to be really awkward thanks to the complicated way the primary/secondary Switch stuff works. Seems like if they want to encourage multiple switches on one Family group they should make it easier to, well, switch.

Thanks folks! That's good to know. Same! ...I'm one of the minority who really liked the GameCube one too, even though it took such a different approach (it didn't get all the gameplay right but it was so sweet and atmospheric). Though those two came out at around the same time, I think...the games have been more confused since then. I do have the 1st Story of Seasons on 3DS but I don't think I really got into it for some reason. I'm a sucker for aesthetics, though, and this one looks great.

I've been wondering if the AC special edition will end up being one of the new, cheaper Switch models... it might partly explain why we've had zero Animal Crossing news since the very first teaser; they may well want to reveal the new Switches at E3 and Animal Crossing might tie into that (especially as it's seen to be a more casual game, so possibly a good fit for the cheaper model). I kind of hope not, though, especially if the people speculating that the cheap one'd be handheld-only are correct! I really want a cute Animal Crossing Switch and I'm planning to hold out on buying my own Switch until I know if I can get it... but if it's a different model I'll need to make sure the specs aren't terrible in comparison to the current one . I suppose if the cheap one was handheld-only but otherwise good then I could just make sure I got my AC game on a physical cartridge, then use our current Switch if I wanted to play it on the big screen.

If Animal Crossing is still coming in 2019 (pleeease ) there's going to be such a glut of good and cute games. Speaking of which, I hope they announce a special Animal Crossing edition Switch... would love to splurge my birthday money on one this year!

Not Nintendo-exclusive content, but... Apparently Doraemon: Story of Seasons (???) is coming to Nintendo Switch in Autumn? (how did I not know this was a thing? ) And in English! Not sure what to make of it, but gosh the art is pretty. The watercolour effect of the landscape looks so convincing! The dilemma will be whether to get this or to wait for a non-Doraemon Story of Seasons down the line.
