I decided to start up on Undead Unluck last night. I only made it through the first chapter before I got sleepy. Pretty kooky. Seems like it will be fun. I wonder how many weeks it will take for me to get caught up 200+ chapters!

The last few chapters of Akane-banashi were just fantastic all around. I really liked the flashback panels with Chocho, Taizen, and Akane's dad mixed in throughout her performance. It all just fit and flowed so nicely. I would have been mega bummed out if she didn't get Taizen's recommendation. Spy x Family kind of feels like a story that isn't intended to ever have an ending. Like, there is a story that runs through it and keeps developing, but there is at the same time an episodic nature to each arc as well. I feel like it will eventually just end with Loid, Yor, and Anya still happily in the same situation. The East/West thing is never truly solved--but they don't go to war either--and Loid keeps having to operate as Twilight perpetually. They never learn each other's secrets, etc. There will be ups and downs in terms of how good the story is at any given time. Hopefully it gets its groove back soon.

You still keeping up with stuff in Jump, @Psycho666Soldier ? I am still really enjoying everything that's happening in The Elusive Samurai, Sakamoto Days, and Akane-banashi. They are all really going strong. Elusive Samurai and Sakamoto both feel like they could be slowly nearing the end, but who knows. That could still be weeks and months away. In Elusive Samurai, the Intermission chapters were back around #110 if I remember correctly. I kind of took that to be roughly a halfway point in the story. If you're not up-to-date on Akane-banashi then you gotta get caught up! JJK also seems dangerously close to finally wrapping up the Culling Game arc. I sure hope it's done soon. There has been some fantastic action at times, but it's also been confusing and too long. I would be quite happy if the series wraps after this arc. I feel like I've had my fill. Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man have underwhelmed me a bit in recent weeks. They're not bad, but they're also not living up to my expectations and the high standards that the authors have set for themselves. After watching the Mashle anime over the winter, I picked up the manga where the anime left off. Around chapter #75 IIRC, which meant only ~90 chapters to finish the story. I blitzed through it pretty quickly. It was good in general with some great action moments mixed in. The whole thing is very kooky. And times the kookiness works for me, other times it's just kinda dumb.

Yeah I’m super curious about Shin’s apparent new technique in Sakamoto Days. Mind control??? Unless those last few panels were just a misdirection and it has nothing to do with Shin—that would be pretty fun I totally agree re: the last chapter of Akane-banashi. What a beautiful thing. If Taizen doesn’t acknowledge that performance then I’m gonna be mega bummed out.

You’ve gotta get caught up on some of this stuff @Psycho666Soldier There has been lots of excitement in Sakamoto Days and Elusive Samurai. Akane just finished a thrilling performance in Akane-banashi. The latest Show-ha Shoten! continued Nazutani’s storyline in a really nice way. Beat & Motion is still awesome. Lots of good stuff in Jump right now! Not sure if you kept up with Choujin X but that series has been on a great roll for a while now too.

DB Super #102 — We’re officially past the events of the Super Hero movie now. It hasn’t launched into a new story arc yet but I assume it will eventually. This was a fun “let’s see who’s stronger now” sparring chapter which is going to carry into at least one more chapter. I liked it.

Yeah for sure. The author succeeded in adding depth and complexity to that character. Basically got me to empathize with a character that I never expected to.

It’s a good time for getting caught up on stuff. Lots of good action going on in Sakamoto and Elusive Samurai right now. Akane-banashi it still on a good run too.

I binged a bunch of JJBA Part 6 - Stone Ocean over the holidays. Almost caught up to current. IIRC up to chapter 109 is out on the Jump app. 49 chapters to go to finish it, so that’s basically a year if it’s on a weekly schedule. Stone Ocean was a slow starter for me, similar to Golden Wind, but some of the characters and stands have really grown on me. I am enjoying it.

I haven’t read all the new stuff for this week yet but I am loving the action in MMA, Elusive Samurai, and Sakamoto! MMA #27 Elusive Samurai #139 Sakamoto #149

Yeah, it’s nice that the opponent isn’t just a punching bag. There is a bit more depth to it. Here are my top 5 most-read titles this year according to Jump: Should be a few more tied with Sakamoto and Akane, the other stuff I follow weekly, but it cuts off at 5 in the email they send out.

Sakamoto is the best Yeah I have pretty high hopes for this fight. I really enjoyed this week’s chapter. Tokiyuki is learning on the fly. Really want to see him apply what he’s picking up from Sadamune to take him out. On top of that, there is Kojiro’s fight, and what Nitta is doing. These kids are tough! Agreed! But I am going to be supremely bummed out if Nao doesn’t win

    [Manga Chat]

Yeah man I am hyped for the next bouts in MMA! Really pulling for Nao to win. I am also hyped for what’s next in Akane-banashi. Elusive Samurai set up a new showdown between Tokiyuki and bug-eye. I’m very curious to see how that goes down. The latest Spy x Family was really good too

Yeah, Beat and Motion is very very good. I love it I saw that Blue Box got an anime announced recently, so I’ve been thinking about picking it up. I’m assuming it’s fairly light-hearted. Could be fun. High school romance stuff with a sports theme.

I blitzed through the hockey manga (Dogsred) last night. It is a hit in my books! It's honestly been a long time since I considered myself a hockey fan, but I still have a soft spot for it at times. This is perfect. Outside of the hockey stuff, you can kind of sum it up as a fish-out-of-water story (at least to begin with). The main character is a talented figure skater who, for {reasons} finds himself up in Hokkaido, estranged from figure skating (but still loves skating) and then all the sudden he gets roped into playing a game of hockey. It really takes off quick. I didn't want to put it down. And the "edutainment" portion of it about hockey and skating in general seems pretty on point so far. I like it I also finished off JJBA Part 5: Golden Wind yesterday. It had a very strong finish and might have jumped up to #2 in my rankings of the JJBA I've read so far (with Diamond is Unbreakable as the clear #1). The final showdown with the bad guy gets confusing at times because of the crazy stand abilities involved, but the author takes care to remind pretty frequently exactly what's what. My one complaint about Golden Wind is probably the awkward stand names in the version of the manga serialized in Jump, but I'm assuming that's like a copyright/legal problem and not a bad localization. Most of the stands are named after bands and they were probably going to have issues with those bands (or their management, record companies, etc). But when you know what the name is supposed to be (e.g. Sex Pistols) and then they keep calling it something else (in this case, Six Bullets) it just hits a bit different. A few of the "other" names work well though (e.g. King Crimson was a great name choice, but Emperor Crimson is a pretty cool alternative). Part 6: Stone Ocean is still being serialized in Jump... looks like they're about 2/3 of the way through. So I will start reading that soon and eventually get current on it. I am looking forward to the change of scenery away from Italy in Stone Ocean, and to the return of Jotaro in some capacity.

Chainsaw Man is starting to lose me just a little bit. I'm sure I'll figure out what's going on again soon enough though! I really really enjoyed this week's chapter of Beat & Motion (#20) The latest Wild Strawberry (#11) was pretty good stuff too. Did you give it a try yet? In other news, I am about 25 chapters off from finishing JJBA Part 5: Golden Wind. It was a bit of a tough slog at first because I didn't immediately take to the new cast of characters. And the new JoJo's (err, GioGio) stand, Golden Wind, takes a bit of getting used to before you realized how interesting it can be... but eventually it won me over and really hit a good stride around the halfway point. It doesn't match up to Diamond is Unbreakable (my favourite part thus far) or Stardust Crusaders, but Golden Wind is still pretty solid.
